FX has renewed its vampire comedy for another run. What We Do In The Shadows Season 2 will be the next installment of the series, and will return on the Disney-owned cable network. They renewed the series for a 10-episode queue second season in May 2019, midway through the show’s first season.
FX president of original programming Nick Grad praised the show in a statement. According to Grad, Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi and Paul Simms have more than delivered on the high expectations of Shadows fans by adapting the cult classic for television and building a passionate base of new and returning fans. He also thanked the entire creative team and wished to work with all of them again in the second season.
What We Do In The Shadows is a comedy horror series of FX. The show is based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 feature film of the same name. The mockumentary features a group of vampires and their human familiars on Staten Island. The first season debuted in late March and concluded in May 2019.
The series has become a solid performer for FX with its debut season only. It averaged 2.81 million viewers across all platforms and ranked in the top five series among 34 cable comedies that have debuted in 2019. The debut season also received a hugely positive reaction from the audience.
What We Do In The Shadows Season 2: Plot Details
The series follows the three vampires Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Lazslo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years, dabbling in everything from werewolf battles to painting the town red.
By the end of the first season, a significant complication flashed up. Guillermo, who always wanted to become a vampire, always toiled as Nandor’s familiar, turned out as a descended from Abraham Van Helsing, the world-renowned vampire hunter. The second season will continue these loose ends of the threads.
The first season of the series explored the mundane, daily issues of the vampires. However, in the second season, they have to deal with living in today’s world. The second season will focus on how the characters will end up in the crowd.
What the co-creator has to say about What We Do In The Shadows Season 2?
The co-executive producer and writer Stefani Robinson expressed her views about the second season in an interview for IndieWire. She shared that before all the vampire-killing stuff, she would like to explore Guillermo as a human being. According to her, he’s very much a person that lives in the present day with vampires and delving into his real world, and how he balances the two, what lies he has to say to his family.
She also shared her enthusiasm about the relationship and the characters that will take place, especially with Nandor. Not just this, she even teased the fans for the second season as “There’s an unending list of supernatural characters both familiar and unfamiliar. And we have the luxury of taking things up to see what we could comment on about society or not.”
