The Whisperers will play their game this time. The zombie drama series is back for another run, with its upcoming installment, The Walking Dead Season 10. AMC renewed its most popular series for the tenth season even before the finale of the ninth season.
The Walking Dead debuted exclusively in October 2010 as its post-apocalyptic horror series. The show is adapted from the comic by Frank Darabont. The series has been loved and appreciated by each age group worldwide. The series has been well received by critics and the audience as well. The show has received several award nominations, including the Writers Guild of America Award for New Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama Series.
The ninth season of the series saw some dwindling ratings. Despite that, the show received the renewal for its tenth season. Although the showrunner turned chief content officer of the franchise, Scott Gimple believes that it has 20 more seasons left in the tank.
The Walking Dead Season 10: Cast Updates
It seems like the entire cast, who survived through the previous season, will reappear in the upcoming season. However, Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, stated that she has signed on for only a recurring role in the tenth season. Therefore, the character would possibly die in the tenth season.
What Will Happen In The Walking Dead Season 10?
As per the former show-runner Gimple, the upcoming season will explore more of the original stuff, away from the comic-book source. Carol (Melissa McBridge) was also an original additional to the series. And it turned out a good thing, as the character became one of the fan favorites.
Also, the audience saw new antagonist in the ninth season, The Whisperers, from the original comic book. They were this roving gang of killers who dresses in the skin of the dead and show no mercy while killing their prey. They will also return in the tenth season. However, there are some problems that need to be worked out with the Whisperers, as stated by the showrunner Angela Kang.
By the end of the ninth season, Alpha (Samantha Morton) was looking to prepare for war against Alexandria and Hilltop. Therefore, the upcoming season will encounter her and The Whisperers. However, in the comics, Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) will put an end to Alpha and her aim. So, likely, the tenth season will also move towards the same destination.
The Walking Dead Season 10: Will Feature Time-Lapse
According to Kang, the tenth season will pick up with a little bit of time passage, though it will be not much significant. As she stated, the winter will get over, and the people will reach in a different emotional space. She also said that the upcoming season would have stuff that the audience has never seen before, which seems impossible for them as well.
The Walking Dead Season 10: Might Introduce Commonwealth
At the end of the ninth season, an unknown female voice crackled through Hiltop’s radio. Though it was hard to distinguish whom voice was it, the audience is speculating that this was Maggie (Lauren Cohan), reaching out after heading to an undisclosed community with the enigmatic Georgie.
However, the source material for the series presents some other data. In the comics, a woman named Stephanie reaches out to Eugene over this very same radio. She develops a dialogue with Alexandria over the series of a few weeks. Later, it turns out she’s from The Commonwealth; a huge city made up of 50,000 people that don’t look entirely unlike a pre-apocalypse society. Therefore, the tenth season will likely feature The Commonwealth. There are also some chances that both Hilltop and Alexandria move there once their run-in with The Whisperers wraps up.
The Walking Dead Season 10: Spin-off Movie
AMC has already announced plans for three films to follow Rick’s storyline after Lincoln’s departure. Also, Gimple has stated that they have plans to explore events related to Rick’s character in the future. The production was expected to begin production work in 2019, but there has not been any update on this yet. Along with Lincoln, Pollyanna McIntosh and Dania Gurira will also feature in the trio movie series.
The Walking Dead Season 10: Release Date
All the seasons of The Walking Dead premiered in October month of their respective years of release. The previous season of the franchise also wrapped up in March 2019 only. Therefore, the tenth season would also likely premiere in October 2019. However, the release date has yet to be officially announced by AMC.
