In recent times, Netflix has been working hard on giving the limelight to some deserving international shows. Some foreign TV series like Dark, Elite, Vagabond, and Money Heist have worked exceptionally well for the streaming platform. While most of these shows have returned with sequels, fans are still waiting for Pine Gap Season 2. The Australian series debuted back in October 2018 and was adored by its audience.
Greg Haddick’s Pine Gap is the first joint production of Netflix and ABC TV (Australia). It is an amazing spy thriller that was appreciated by a large number of fans. The series received mixed reviews from critics. While some of them loved the storyline and mystery, others criticized the writing and the acting. Yet, the story managed to leave a mark as viewers demand to watch what happens next. Will it ever return? Here’s everything to know.
Pine Gap Season 2: Renewal
As of now, Netflix and ABC Australia are yet to order another season of the show. It’s about to be one and a half years since Pine Gap debuted, and there’s still no clue of a Season 2. As compared to Netflix’s other popular ventures, chances are low for its renewal. The streaming giant rarely takes as long to wave the green flag for its successful projects. Hence, the hiatus is worrisome for the future of the series.
Yet, there have been a few cases when Netflix has taken time to greenlight its shows. Besides, the streamer usually makes formal announcements when it cancels popular programs. Since there’s currently no official cancellation, fans can still have some hope for Pine Gap Season 2.
On the other hand, the ending of the first season hints that the creators were preparing for a sequel. The last episode ended on a cliffhanger, which might be explained in the upcoming installment. The story of the series is still incomplete and leaves room for continuation in the future.
Are The Creators Interested In Making ‘Pine Gap Season 2?’
The renewal of the series entirely depends upon Netflix and ABC. The makers have shown interest in creating another season of their show. Yet, like the viewers, the creators are also expecting a confirmation from the streaming platforms. Show director Mat King shared that he’d love to work on Pine Gap Season 2. Besides, he also retweeted several fan tweets demanding a sequel.
On the other hand, actress Jacqueline McKenzie openly accepted that she’s hoping for a renewal. Through some tweets, she went on to ask for support from fans. Due to one of her posts, a hashtag #MakePinGapSeason2Happen was trending on Twitter back in early 2019.

In fact, several celebrities went on to share their reviews on social media. One of the main highlights was Stephen King’s tweet appreciating the show. The famous author went on to say that he’s hoping for Pine Gap Season 2. This post was retweeted by a large number of fans, including the makers and the cast of the Australian TV series.
PINE GAP (Netflix) is a good one. No explosions, no fights (a little pushing around in the final episode–there are 6), lots of geek-speak. It ramps up the tension, though, and the whodunit aspect is beautifully handled. Hoping for Season 2.

When Will It Release?
As of now, there’s still hope for the return of the popular series. Yet, fans may have to wait for a while until Netflix and ABC Australia form a firm decision. However, even if the renewal comes right away, new episodes may not debut anytime sooner than late 2020 or early 2021. Don’t worry! We promise to update this section as soon as the news arrives.
