Line Of Duty Season 7: Boss Teased The Future Of The Series, Will It Ever Happen?

BBC One

Line Of Duty Season 6 is coming closer to its grand finale. However, the showrunner is still unsure whether Line Of Duty Season 7 could return in the middle of the pandemic. Well, the latest chapter has delivered plenty of bombshell events so far, including Jo Davidson’s (Kelly Macdonald) connection with Tommy Hunter (Brian McClure), not to forget Ryan Pilkington (George Piper) and Kate Fleming’s (Vicky McClure) face off in the epic gun showdown.

Since Line Of Duty began airing, it focused on the corrupted police officers in AC-12 who’s somehow connected to H. But the identity of the mysterious “H” remains a riddle. Now that the current run is edging closer to its finale, it’s unclear how they could wrap up everything when the tension between the characters is still rising. As of now, all we can do is wait till the finale drops.

Line Of Duty Season 7: Has It Renewed For The Next Run?

It’s pretty hard to say, but nothing has been confirmed about Line Of Duty Season 7 yet. Though the series has been BBC’s highest-rated series, yet the creator, Jed Mercurio, isn’t sure whether they could make their return. Speaking on the next run, Jed said currently they’re in a position where it’s unclear whether the series will get the seventh season. However, he’s hoping to return with the seventh season.

But they have to map everything now before focusing on the next run, especially when the pandemic is still playing out. Though Jed doesn’t seem to continue with the seventh season yet, he also doesn’t want to wrap like this. While speaking about whether the sixth season would cover all the plot threads, he said: “I haven’t certainly been true to that.”

Martin Compston Teased His Return

Albeit Jed’s focusing on the current condition, Martin, who plays DI Steve Arnott, seems optimistic to return for the next run. In a recent interview, Martin said: “We could come back,” as soon as the sixth season wrap. However, they have already alluded to the fate of the series. Speaking of which, Martin said it feels such a shame to finish it this way.

He added they are in such an excellent job where they can hang out together. Even it has become a massive part of their life. So, he believes that they shouldn’t end the series at such an early point. But Martin said that Jed definitely knows what he’s doing. Further, he assured us that there’s always a potential to continue with the series. Perhaps with the mysterious “H” case or starting a new case.

Adrian Dunbar Looking For At Least One More Season

Meanwhile, Adrian, who plays Ted Hastings, said he wanted to return for one more season as he doesn’t want to end like this. He added the finale feels quite tricky as Vicky said something which would indeed cause trouble for Ted. So he didn’t think that it’s best to stop the series in such a way. He added that everyone called Jed to say that they want at least one season to wrap the story and not like the one they did in lockdown.

BBC Being Supportive For Season 7

Jed revealed that the BBC has been supporting him in every decision. One of the biggest examples is when they required two additional episodes and the network quickly granted it. However, this time, the network is trying to convince Jed not to wrap up things likes this. He added the network has been reassuring him to come up with a plot for the seventh season. But, he’s still unsure whether it’s the right thing to do.
