Leaving back all stereotypes behind, Gentleman Jack has been picked up for another run. Gentleman Jack Season 2 will be the next installment of the series. The audience has been longing for the renewal of one of the most different shows of this time.
Gentleman Jack is a co-venture of BBC One and HBO. The show features Suranne Jones as Anne Lister, a lesbian who pushed the limits of acceptable conduct in Georgian Yorkshire. The girl tacked with all the hurdles and roles demanded by the society and lived her truth with her life partner, Ann Walker (played by Sophie Rundle).
The debut season of Gentleman Jack was BBC’s most-watched new drama this year. Also, it brought in 5.1 million average overnight viewers.

In a recent post on show’s official Twitter handle, news came up that the filming work take place in May 2020. Therefore, it seems that the audience need to wait a little bit longer for the next season. Also, Gentleman Jack Season 2 has been ordered for eight episodes.

Showrunner Discussed About The Upcoming Season
In an interview with Digital Spy, show runner Sally Wainwright revealed her plans for the second season. According to her, Anne and Ann will together move into Shibden. The second season will check how the two will negotiate their married life in public. How the two will deal with their detractors and their effect on the relationship will be the focus of the Gentleman Jack Season 2.
When asked about further possibilities after the second season, Sally teased that there’s no end of stories, the diaries, this vast wealth of knowledge. Also, she hoped that the show would continue after the second season as well.

Who Will Return For Gentleman Jack Season 2?
According to the actual timeline, the second season will lack quite some significant characters from the first season. Anne’s sister Marian (Gemma Whelan), her father Captain Lister (Timothy West), her aunt Anne (Gemma Jones) and many more will not return in the second season.
However, Sally also shared that she doesn’t want to lose Aunt Anne. According to her, just because the characters die in real life, it doesn’t mean she has to bump them off in the drama as well. Also, some significant add-ons in the cast list will take place as the show is taking another step in the second season.
What Will Happen With Anne and Ann?
According to the reports of Variety, Season 2, which will have eight episodes, will continue to pull from Lister’s diaries. The second season of the show would theme on the couple’s married life. Last time, the audience saw Anne and Ann walking out of the church, took Communion together. It was a symbol of their unconventional yet legally impossible marriage.
Also, in real life, the couple traveled to a lot of places together. Therefore, the fans will see some new destinations and location shoots in the second season. Meanwhile, some loose threads from the first season will likely tie-up in the upcoming season as well. Season 2 would address the unresolved issue of the coalmine. Also, will Rawson brothers will get better to Anne? will Christopher Rawson get his punishment? These are some of the questions that might get answered in the second season.
As per Radiotimes, the first season covered the duration from 1832 to 1834 of lister’s life. And she did not die till 1840. Therefore, the series can explore six more years with a second, and most probably a third and a fourth one as well.
Gentleman Jack Season 2 Release Date
The first season of the show premiered in April 2019. And as per the news, the production work will kick start in May 2020, Gentleman Jack Season 2 will likely premiere in later half of 2020. However, the official release date is yet to be announced by BBC.
