Despite being a superhit, fans may not get to watch Crash Landing On You Season 2. Yet, a large section of the CLOY fanbase demands more episodes of the amazing show. Is there any hope for a sequel? Back in December 2019, Crash Landing On You released on South Korean entertainment network tvN. Within a few weeks, it became one of the most popular K-drama series of recent times. In fact, with its debut on Netflix, CLOY was listed as the second highest-rated Korean show ever. The series was also a commercial success for its producers (Studio Dragon & Cultural Depot) with over 1.75 billion online views. Crash Landing On You is praised for its on-point and sensible portrayal of North Korea and the chemistry between the leads, a North Korean soldier, and a South Korean chaebol. It is created by the director of another popular Netflix K-drama, Romance Is A Bonus Book, Lee Jeong-hyo.
Crash Landing On You Season 2: Renewed Or Canceled?
Despite being a massive success, chances for the renewal of Crash Landing On You Season 2 are pretty slim. One of the main reasons behind the same is that the story of the series is already wrapped up. The last episode gave closure to almost all storylines and characters. According to where the plot ends, it’s highly likely that the creators weren’t planning to make a sequel.
On the other hand, it’s quite rare for K-dramas to return for a second season. Even today, out of hundreds of well-performing South Korean shows, only a few have a sequel. What Will Be The Plot Of Season 2?
The story of this beautiful series centers around a chaebol- heiress and owner of a beauty brand, Yoon Se-Ri [Son Ye-Jin]. In a paragliding accident, the South Korean woman lands in the forest of North Korea. After a series of events, an elite North Korean soldier, Ri Jeong-Hyeok [Hyun Bin] vows to keep her safe and send her back to her country. The two go through plenty of problems during Se-Ri’s stay and eventually fall in love.
After all those exciting and heart-warming episodes, fans were excited to know if their favorite characters will end up together. Well, the first season ends with Yoon Se-Ri and Ri Jeong-Hyeok spending a two-week vacation in Switzerland. They will get to meet each other on this vacation once per year. While a large chunk of CLOY’s fanbase was satisfied with the bittersweet ending, others want them to end up together and get married in the future. If tvN and Netflix want to expand the story of the series, they might feature how the couple manages their complicated relationship.
Crash Landing On You Season 2 might highlight if Yoon Se-Ri, Jeong-Hyeok, and their families remain comfortable with this relationship for the upcoming years. The sequel might also feature the difficulties of being away for almost a year. Aside from the leads, CLOY Season 2 can also feature Seo Dan’s side of the story. After losing the love of her life, Gu Seung-Joon/Alberto Gu, she decided to dedicate her life to music and playing the piano. The second installment can also talk about Dan, and if she ever finds love again.
Since the storyline of all other characters has been wrapped up, it’s hard to say if any of them will return in Crash Landing On You Season 2. However, the new season might feature a brand new set of characters surrounding Se-Ri and Jeong-Hyeok in the future.
Crash Landing On You Season 2: Release Date
As of now, none of the companies related to the production of the series have talked about its renewal. However, there’s still hope for its return. Even if the creators renew it right away, Crash Landing On You Season 2 may not premiere anytime sooner than late 2021 or early 2022.
