EastEnders completely shocked it’s long-time viewers by bringing back an old character, that was presumed dead in the late 90’s. Since the past few weeks rumors had been rife that actress Michelle Collins was returning to revive her former role of Cindy Baele. These reports started surfacing bang in the middle of another on-going mystery. The one surrounding the identity of Rose Knight. The timing gave birth to fans speculating that eventually Rose will be revealed to actually be Cindy.
The Wednesday, June 21, 2023, episode of EastEnders confirmed that Cindy was indeed well and alive on the soap. In turn putting forth many questions about where and what she had been doing until now. Earlier this week, EastEnders’ boss, Chris Clenshaw, shed some light on the shocking return of this previously dead character. Clenshaw explained that Cindy’s return was not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but had been in the pipeline for over a year.
The EastEnders head-honcho added that he had always wanted to bring back Cindy to the fold, but was unsure about the return storyline. However, that all changed when one of the writers proposed a storyline that made everyone on the table gasp! Clenshaw added that when Cindy was revealed dead, there was no dead-body, so it was plausible to bring her back. The only thing was that “we had to make sure it was credible,” he pointed.
Cindy’s Return Will Be “Explosive”, Promises Chris Clenshaw
Once they had the storyline locked in, all they had to do was to bring Adam Woodyatt back to play Ian on EastEnders. Furthermore, Clenshaw agreed that “people will question how they are back together!” After all, we all know that she hired a hitman to kill Ian, back in the day. However, Chris assured that all of the questions will get answered in the upcoming story. It will all be revealed! Clenshaw added that it has been 25 years since we last saw Cindy. So a lot has changed since then, and she is a different woman now.
The EastEnders boss then gushed that he understands the gravity of bringing back such an iconic character after such a long time. “Cindy’s been sorely missed from our screens, and we’re delighted that she’ll be returning to Walford, alongside Ian, permanently later this year,” he expressed. On a serious note, he added that now everyone knows Cindy is, in fact, Rose Knight! Thus, a lot of secrets are about to be spilled! This is certainly going to be EXPLOSIVE!
Who is Cindy Baele On EastEnders?
For the unversed, Cindy was a character portrayed by actress Michelle Collins on EastEnders from 1989 to 1998. She was married to Ian Baele and had two children with him. Meanwhile, she also had an extra-marital affair with Ian’s step-brother, Simon Wicks. She then had a son with Simon named Steven. Ian later brought up as his own son. Although Ian was truly in love with Cindy, her selfish side eventually started to show up and after several years of complicated marriage, she bolted Westford and fled to Italy with her sons, Steven and Peter.
Later, she got into a relationship with a man named Nick in Italy and got pregnant with his child on EastEnders. However, when Ian managed to snatch Steven and Peter back from her and brought them back to Westford. She challenged Ian in court for their children’s custody and even managed to win it. But, she was then arrested on the charges of having hired a hitman to shoot Ian. Which she actually did! When Nick found out that she had tried to kill Ian, he left her and their unborn baby.
She later gave birth to a baby daughter in prison on EastEnders. However, post that, Ian got word that she had died during childbirth. He then attended her funeral and named her daughter Cindy in her memory. From then till now, Cindy had been presumed dead! However, in a shocking turn of events, Wednesday’s episode revealed her to be alive! She now goes by the name Rose Knight! Stay tuned to EastEnders to find out how Cindy became Rose!
