This Sunday, the show saw Kody Brown, along with his wives took a trip to visit another plural family, The Dargers. Joe Darger has three wives, Alina and real-life sisters Valerie and Vicky. The family has been quite politically active for the cause of decriminalizing the concept of plural marriage in Utah. In the recent episode, Kody revealed how they were looking forward to meeting these friends but how visiting Utah brought them some extremely uneasy feelings. Why was the family so scared? The Brown Family Is Scared Of Going To Utah
Recalling the moments when the Brown family first went public, Janelle Brown revealed that within few days of announcing, the police in Utah started investigating them because of their plural marriage. Plural marriage is a felony in Utah, and it is punishable by up to five years per count. She revealed that back in January 2011, the whole family was so scared of this that the police would come and arrest them, as reported by the People. So, they left the state in the dark of night. Janelle said that they felt like they were being exiled.
The Browns then came to Las Vegas and settled down there. After some time, they sued the state of Utah. They won for a year. They were decriminalized, and they weren’t felons any longer. However, this relief was short-lived when The state of Utah appealed to their lawsuit and won it. That overturned, and then the law was doubled and made it the worse felony for the Polygamists in Utah.
Sister Wives Speaks About Her Fear Of Going To Utah
Before they went on the trip, Kody and his wives discussed whether all of them should drive together or just go in their separate cars? However, ultimately they all went together but had major concerns about going to Utah, the place they called their home.
In a statement, Janelle says that the biggest fear she has about going back to Utah is. What if they were pulled for a traffic violation? They would use that as an opportunity to tack on the felony polygamy charge because that is how things usually work. They get you for something and then keep adding up. She continues to say that she is always like, don’t speak Kody, don’t speak Kody. She called her fear dumb but also said that it was real. Robyn also revealed that she was afraid of the possible consequences. She says that if one can imagine, going to Utah is like going to a place where your family is illegal. She says that they just feel oppressed. That makes her worry.
Kody Brown Is A Felon In Utah
As the Dargers and the Browns sat together for an evening, both the families had a great time. However, speaking to the camera, Christine says that Polygamy is still a felony in Utah. They were sitting with their fellow felons. They are the felons, just like the Dargers. The police could just come and arrest them all.
Janelle says that theoretically, Kody is the felon because he has one legal wife and three plural wives. So, if he was sent to jail, he would be in jail for anywhere between nine-fifteen years. The probation involved not getting to see the children, not committing the same crime again. So, basically, if he was spending time with his children, he would be in a huge mess.
