In 2017, there was a car crash involving Kody and his and Christine’s son, Paedon. While driving Kody’s car, Paedon rear-ended the Plaintiffs Stefannie Gonzalez and Mirella Flores. The father-son duo faced negligence charges after the accident in December 2018. Due to that, they have to pay $30k for causing all the pain and suffering. Let’s take a look at the details.
Sister Wives: Kody and Paedon Ordered to Pay $30k
On May 27th, 2020, the case was resolved in arbitration that turned pout to be in favor of the plaintiffs and against Paedon and Kody. The driver Steffanie was entitled to an amount of $8,774.28 for medical bills and $3,000 for suffering and pain. The passenger Mirella got $13,521 for medical specials and $4,500 for damages, suffering, and pain. Moreover, the father-son duo also had to pay $60.11 in fees.
The plaintiffs claimed that even though Paedon was the one driving, Kody was equally liable for their loss. After all, he was the one who handed over the responsibility of driving to someone incompetent. The plaintiffs sued for an amount of $15,000 on account of self and property damage.
According to the court records, the collision impaired the plaintiffs from performing household, recreational, and vocational activities. It caused them mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of wages, earning capacity, etc. Not to mention, the accident degraded the quality of their lives for an uncertain amount of time.
Sister Wives: Kody and Paedon Denied Allegations
Even though Kody and Paedon denied all the allegations, they have no other choice but to pay the $30k amount in full to the plaintiffs. The worst part about this recent occurrence is that the family is already in an intense financial crisis.
Christine needs $50k for her daughter’s surgery which she is trying to raise with her LuLaRoe sales. Thankfully, she is halfway there but there is still a lot she has to collect. The family has purchased land worth $820,000 to build their family homes. For the Coyote Pass property, the family is paying five mortgages.
Moreover, Robyn and Kody also applied for a home equity line of credit on March 20, 2020, in the amount of $150,000 for their house, which was fortunately approved. But as Christine said at the beginning of the recent season, they are financially drowning. Plus, the impact of the pandemic might drown the family further into debt due to the reduced cash flow.
