He appeared on season 5 of My 600 Lb Life. At the time, he weighed about 791 pounds and was one of the heaviest cast members. In 2018, when he appeared on Where are they now, his weight spiked to 840 pounds. At the time of his death, the former reality TV star was 49 years old.

Owing to the increase in his weight, Dr. Now thought that something was fishy. He called the Adult Protective Services on Lisa as he suspected that James’s wife was sneaking in food to give to him. After some time, he dismissed James from the weight loss program.
The cause of James’s death is not confirmed yet. However, he did have a long list of health issues, most of them stemming from his weight. On the show, he struggled to drop his weight to 600 pounds so that he could have bariatric surgery. However, his weight spiked up to 840 pounds.

James’ father brought him and his brother up. He stated that he saw his mom only three times during his childhood. However, she was drunk. James felt that something was missing from his life. But when he reconnected with his mom later, he didn’t feel that way any longer.
However, a few months later, his mom passed away. He got a call saying that his family home burned down while he was at his mom’s funeral. A series of negative incidents pushed him to depression. It became so severe that he no longer wanted to go to school. Moreover, all James wanted to do is eat.

James’s father was the one who encouraged him to seek out Dr. Now‘s help for his weight. However, he failed to reach the goal Dr. Now set for him. So, he couldn’t undergo the weight loss surgery and they sent him home. When he appeared on Where are they now, James claimed that he was following the diet and the weight loss program Dr. Now made for him. However, he kept putting on weight.
Some of the health problems he suffered from included cirrhosis of the liver, sepsis, and kidney failure. He loved sports such as wrestling, basketball, and hockey. The reality TV star also cheered on for the Chicago Cubs. Another prominent hobby was fishing. He also loved connecting with friends across the country’ Cracker Jack’ handle on his CB radio.
