Season 6 of Welcome To Plathville focuses largely on the aftermath of Kim and Barry’s divorce. Following their split, the former couple have been embroiled in a custody battle over their daughters Amber, 15, Cassia, 13, and Mercy, 11. Amid the tensions and an understandable discomfort, Kim and Barry reunited for their daughter Lydia’s birthday celebration.
The August 27 episode of Welcome To Plathville shows the former couple setting aside their differences for a smooth and stress-free birthday party for their 20-year-old. “It’s definitely a little bit awkward,” Kim states, referring to being in the same room as her ex-husband. However, she emphasizes that a joint party was important “for Lydia to see that even though we’re separated, Barry and I still both really love her.”
The scene cut to Moriah Plath suggesting Barry place his gift among the other presents. However, after finding no place on the table, the patriarch decided to put it on the floor near others. In a private confessional, Barry noted that he and Kim do not get along anymore, calling it the “new norm.” He continues, “It’s definitely a little bit uncomfortable.”
The Welcome To Plathville star mentioned that his main focus was to make the day special for Lydia. The former couple then continued to discuss Lydia’s arrival; and whether they were ready for the surprise. Towards the end, Ethan praises his parents for coming through despite their differences.
“I certainly hope I’m never in a situation like that with kids involved,” he says. Ethan adds that he hopes to handle such a similar situation as gracefully as his parents.
Welcome To Plathville: Barry Meets Kim’s Boyfriend Ken!
Earlier in August, Welcome To Plathville star Barry crossed paths with Kim’s boyfriend, Ken, during a family get-together. Kim mentioned that while Ken was willing to meet Barry for a long time, the latter was not on the same page. During their meeting, Barry and Ken ended up sitting at opposite tables.
