Emmerdale: Vanessa Is Back To Rescue Friend Rhona
Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick makes a comeback after a long 14-month maternity leave. The actress’ character, Vanessa Woodfield, along with her son Johnny, left the Dales for a dream job in Canada. However, after an urgent call from best friend Rhona Goskirk, she is back to help her.
We know that Rhona has been facing a lot of trouble since baby Ivy was born. Initially, she was not at ease with the fact that Gus used her frozen embryos. Then, just when she started growing close to Ivy, Gus decided to leave Emmerdale and move with Ivy to France. Hence, recently, she disappeared with Ivy, leaving Marlon and her mother, Mary, shocked.
Obviously, Vanessa knew about the baby, but she had no clue that Rhona would run away with the baby. In the February 9, 2024, episode of Emmerdale, Vanessa finds Rhona and Ivy at an abandoned cottage. She is in a major panic and is thinking about the worst possible consequences. However, she still wants to help her friend.
The Emmerdale actress reveals that Vanessa does try to reason with Rhona in order to make things right. Vanessa explains, “You’ve got April at home, you’ve got Leo, they need you as much as Ivy does. So you’ve got to think of the ‘bigger picture.” Meanwhile, Vanessa knows how terrifying it would be for Rhona to lose this little baby.

Vanessa directly contacts Mary to pass on the news to Marlon. Marlon shows up to his wife’s rescue. However, he makes a mistake in informing Gus, who arrives shortly with the police. Vanessa knows that she betrayed her friend, but deep down, she believes that she did the right thing.
The Emmerdale star says that Rhona can’t go on the run with this baby for the rest of her life because that’s no life for her or that child. She continues, “But ultimately, Rhona will blame all of this on Vanessa – as always!”
What’s Next For Vanessa In Emmerdale?
Vanessa is all set to return ‘home’ soon. She goes to Canada to wrap things up and come back for the good. Now, she is on to the Tracy-Nate split-up drama. However, she is unaware of the Caleb and Tracy affair yet. The new return just knows that Tracy has fallen out of love. But she just can’t believe it as it has just been seven months.
Next up in Emmerdale, she suggested Tracy to stay friends with Nate. She is quite certain that the couple will make things work out. However, when she discovers about the affair, will it change anything? Absolutely not! It’s because, after all, Tracy is her sister. Michelle expresses, “She does stick by her sister – of course, she does because she loves the bones of her.”
Additionally, Vanessa left Emmerdale right after breaking up with her girlfriend, Suzy. They ended the relationship on a good note. However, after she finds out about Suzy and Mary, how will she react? Mary is someone Vanessa sees as a mother figure, and the possibility of Mary and Suzy dating will definitely shake her to the core.
“I Actually Feel Like I’ve Never Been Away” Says The Emmerdale Star
The Emmerdale actress Michelle is overjoyed to be back on the soap. She shares, “I’m loving it – I actually feel like I’ve never been away, even though it’s been 14 months.” The soap star even expresses worry over thinking that she will not be able to learn lines, but thankfully, it didn’t happen. She quotes, “Now, I can maybe finish a cup of tea or nip to the toilet on my own without hearing: ‘Mummy, mummy!’
Hardwick admits that she kept up with the soap plots while she was away. She is happy to be reunited with her Emmerdale co-stars. They did come to visit her and the kids, but she explained that the happiness of seeing them in green rooms and corridors of the set is something different.
