It seems like 2024 is not their year, and now the reports state that they will have to cancel all their events for political reasons. King Charles and the Prince of Wales will no longer be making engagements after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for a surprise general election.
These are scheduled to happen on July 4. In light of this news, PEOPLE reports that the working royals abruptly cancelled their appearances. Furthermore, the publication mentioned that the pair will not resume royal duties until after the elections.
In the midst of all this, Buckingham Palace said in a statement to Tatler:
“Following the Prime Minister’s statement this afternoon calling a General Election, The Royal Family will—in accordance with normal procedure—postpone engagements that may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign. Their Majesties send their sincere apologies to any of those who may be affected as a result.”
