Space Force made its debut in May 2020 and received a mixed response from the critics as well as the audience. It follows a group of people working on establishing the United States Armed Forces’ sixth branch, the United States Space Force. However, General Mark Naird tries his best to accomplish the mission- to land on the moon by 2024 as per the president’s orders.
In July, we heard that Netflix has renewed Space Force Season 2 secretly and was in active development. Soon The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in November 2020 that Netflix has officially renewed Space Force for the second run. But there were a few blatant reasons to be considered to continue the show beyond the second season. Despite the first season called “misfire,” it reached 40 million viewership over 28 days of its release.
However, the critics gave it 39%, and on Metacritic, the first season received 47, whereas, in IMDb, it gained 6.9. But, the audiences have ignored the critics’ warnings with much more benign scores. The first season earned a 74% positive response on Rotten Tomatoes. So deeming the viewership, Netflix gave a go to the second season.
Space Force Season 2: Who Will Be In The Cast?
It wouldn’t be Space Force without Steve Carell as General Mark Naird. So indeed, he will return. Other members include Lisa Kudrow as Maggie Naird, John Malkovich as Dr. Adrian Mallory, and Ben Schwartz as F. Tony. Jimmy O Yang as Dr. Chan Kaifang will return with Don Lake as Brigadier General Bradley Gregory and Alex Sparrow as Captain Yuri. Noah Emmerich as Kick Grabaston with Jessica St. Clair as Kelly King and Spencer House as Duncan Tabner will return as well.
There’s also Roy Wood Jr as Colonel Bert Mellows and Dan Bakkedahl as Secretary of Defense. Jane Lynch as Chief of Naval Operations with Patrick Warburton as Commandant of the Marine Corps will return. Sadly Fred Willard, who played Fred, Mark’s father, passed away, so he’s out of further arrival. Further, Norm Hiscock has joined as co-showrunner with Daniels. Even Jimmy O Yang has joined the writing team for the second run.
Space Force Season 2: What Will Happen Next?
General Mark and his crew were on the verge in the finale after Angela and her team had executed the Chinese moon base. But they soon find that the Chinese team had done the same to their base. However, the General soon proceeds to save the day to rescue his daughter Erin. Meanwhile, Maggie also came up to rescue her daughter with her new girlfriend. Now we can assume that the second season would continue exploring the relationship between Angela and Dr. Chan. Elsewhere it would wrap Maggie’s story arc too.
Space Force Season 2: When To Expect?
In February, we learned that Space Force Season 2 would continue filming this year. The second season filming would likely take place from May 3 to June 21, 2021. However, the filming for the second run would take place in Vancouver, Canada. So, it could mean Space Force Season 2 would air in 2022.
