Their fundamentalist sect of Mormonism only allows a man to marry only one of his wives legally, according to a report by Cheatsheet. Then, he has to “spiritually marry” all of them at a temple with a “male church elder” owning priesthood. As per AUB, a spiritual marriage seals a man and a woman “for eternity”. Hence, one must “unseal” the bond if one wants to get a divorce.
Christine Brown talked about her divorce in the last Sister Wives Tell All. She stated that people could “leave marriages” in their church. The officials “release” the couple spiritually at the church. On the contrary, Robyn Brown considers Kody and Christine spiritually married still. That’s because the church officials who married them didn’t give them a divorce. Christine considers herself divorced. That’s because one can not procure legal papers for being spiritually married. So, it makes no difference to her.
