She recently appeared in a podcast with Janelle and shared that changing names is a tough task. Moreover, if you are over a certain age, it is more difficult for you to change your name.
Janelle also shared that she does not plan to change her name ever again. She wants to stay a ‘Brown,’ as all her kids are ‘Brown.’ It comforts her to share her name with them.

In a recent conversation, Meri revealed that she has no intention of ever going back to her maiden name. Before marrying Kody, her maiden name was Barber, which she later changed to Brown. In an interview with People, Meri shared that she has had many discussions over changing names now that she is divorced and reached a conclusion.
Meri accepted that ‘Brown’ connects her with Kody. She divorced him to start a new life and even got a spiritual separation from him. She does not want to have any ties with him and even wants her share of the Coyote Pass property. However, changing her name is a big step. She now associates her identity with ‘Brown.’ She does not want to change it. She has been Meri Brown for the last 34 years, and now changing it all of a sudden will be weird for her.
Meri further shared that she has been a ‘Brown’ even longer than she had her maiden name. She cleared that she would never go back to her maiden name. However, she is open to changing her name in case she remarries. Furthermore, Meri shared that she and her friends joke about what surname would complement her name.
Kody married Meri in 1990, and soon after, she took his name. She legally divorced him in 2014 so that he could marry Robyn. Meri remained spiritually married to Kody but separated from him after a few years. In January 2023, they jointly announced their separation.
