Real Housewives cast members frequently find themselves at the center of controversies. Bravo has a history of its stars being involved in embarrassing and problematic scandals, casting them in the negative spotlight. Over the years, Bravo stars have been caught up in issues such as racism, misdemeanors, and DUI charges, further tarnishing their public image.
In response to recent controversies, Bravo’s parent company, NBCUniversal, has updated its code of conduct to foster a more positive environment. However, some of the show’s notorious stars have refused to follow these guidelines. So, what is the new code of conduct? Why are some stars against it?
Real Housewives Stars are ‘Balking’ At The New Code Of Conduct!
Bravo has faced several scandals in recent years. In 2020, the network fired Vanderpump Rules cast members over racism allegations. However, Stassi Schroeder, who was also fired, is planning to return to the show after four years. On Below Deck Down season 2, Bosun Luke Jones was fired after attempting to assault an intoxicated stewardess.
They removed another member over sexual harassment charges. Moreover, Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador faced an arrest for DUI in 2023. She had crashed her car into a house. Soon after this shocking accident, Bravo’s parent company, NBCUniversal, updated its code of conduct.
It mentioned the norms the stars of the network have to follow. However, not every cast member seems to be on board with the new guidelines. An insider revealed to InTouch Weekly that some stars are “balking at the additional requirements.” The source added, “While new cast members are eager to sign anything for a chance to be on TV.”
So, “several original Housewives are unhappy with the new clause in their contract.” The code of conduct also requires the cast members to sign a non-disclosure agreement. However, former Real Housewives star Bethenny Frankel criticized the new rules as “unrealistic.” It appears some RHONY stars are sternly resisting the new code of conduct.
However, the source did not reveal which stars are refusing to comply. It will be interesting to see how the network handles such situations. Moreover, they can potentially fire cast members due to this non-compliance.
Real Housewives: What Is The New Code Of Conduct?
Alcohol consumption and mental health issues have prompted recent changes in Bravo policies. After a scandal on Bachelor in Paradise involving sexual consent and alcohol, ABC’s Bachelor Nation franchise imposed strict drink limits. Bravo has followed suit with a new code of conduct.
It includes expanded alcohol-related training for cast and crew and improved monitoring of alcohol consumption. However, it is unclear if these updates are in response to Shannon Beador’s DUI. Mental health concerns became prominent after Rachel Leviss and Tom Sandoval’s affair on Vanderpump Rules, leading to Rachel checking into a mental facility.
Bravo’s updated guidelines now require mental health support for cast members before and after filming. It also includes on-site psychological support during reunions. The new changes are a part of NBCUniversal’s workplace conduct, which also includes anti-discrimination and harassment policies.
