Prince Harry is juggling some security concerns before the Invictus Games 10th Anniversary Service. With his ongoing legal battle with security arrangements in the UK, he’s weighing his options. The Duke might show up via video link or a pre-recorded message.
Harry’s brainchild, the Invictus Games, aims at helping wounded veterans get back into the game through sports. The event will take place on May 8 at St. Paul’s Cathedral. But the royal is contemplating whether to grace it in person. Why the hesitation?
Here’s Why Prince Harry Won’t Visit the UK!
We all know Prince Harry recently lost a legal scuffle with the Home Office over security pulling. Now, the Duke doesn’t have the automatic right to use the royal security services. An insider revealed, “Whenever Harry travels to the UK, his trips depend on how secure he is.” So, his team ensures St. Paul gets top-notch protection from the Metropolitan Police. Moreover, the Sussex royal’s security needs are covered while he’s in the capital city.
Prince Harry quit royal life and settled in the States in 2020. Now, the British government needs Harry to foot the bill for his security in the UK. The only exception is you’re at official royal duties. Additionally, the source said, “Harry wants to spend more time in the UK with his family.” However, that’s a no-go if the Duke of Sussex isn’t so sure about his security details.
Back in February, Prince Harry took his security plea to court but to no avail. Furthermore, his request to appeal also yielded no result with another blow. Yep, the court dismissed his plea to pay only 40 percent of the government’s costs, which were over £500,000. Consequently, the royal now faces a bill of £1 million, including his own legal fees.
The Court’s Decision Leaves Harry Gutted
“Harry is extremely disappointed by the decisions made regarding his security,” the insider disclosed. The Duke didn’t want personal safety just for himself but for his family, the public, and the officers on duty. Nevertheless, the security hiccup won’t throw a wrench in his Invictus plans. The royal might now have to settle for a virtual cameo if the security setup doesn’t gel with his safety needs. Meanwhile, the security bigwigs are brainstorming about how to handle Harry’s future UK visits.
His recent residency bombshell isn’t exactly breaking news now. The Sussexes have been living in Montecito since last summer after being evicted from Frogmore Cottage, the UK residence.
