Nigeria’s First Lady Throws Shade At Meghan Markle, Slams Her Fashion Choice

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a successful short visit to Nigeria, but the couple still couldn’t stay aloof from criticism. Folks slammed Meghan for her fashion choices, while Harry faced the heat for allegedly snubbing King Charles.

But there’s more to go for the Duchess as Nigeria’s first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, made a subtle reference to her. The Senator highlighted the significant contributions of women across various fields during the “Celebrating the Woman” event. So, what about Meghan that didn’t sit well with her?

Nigeria’s First Lady’s Comments on Meghan Markle Style

During their memorable trip to the African country, Meghan Markle donned different outfits and met with top officials and locals alongside Harry. She made sure to nail her polish appearance, reportedly spending around £120,000 on accessories and new clothes.

However, Nigeria’s First Lady opted to take a dig at Meghan’s fashion sense. During her speech to mark President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office, Oluremi had a message for the youth.

She warned about the risk of Nigerian youth losing their identity without proper measures. Additionally, the Senator’s speech, broadcast on Arise News and posted on X, included a pointed remark. “We are not having a Met Gala. The nakedness is just everywhere, and the men are well-clothed,” she urged.

Tinubu motivated the youngbloods to do something about the matter and encouraged them to condemn nakedness. “Tell them we don’t accept nakedness in our culture. That is not beautiful. It’s not beautiful at all.”

Furthermore, she laid stress on the importance of Nigerian youth being confident in their heritage and not imitating American cinema stars. Oluremi even grilled Meghan Markle for the same! Nigeria’s first lady questioned Markle’s motives for visiting Africa.

She asked, “They don’t know where they come from. Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa?” The Senator urged everyone to embrace their culture and not lose it. She added that Nigerian children should be proud of their own culture and appearance.

Another user thanked the First Lady for calling out visitors who choose to disrespect Nigeria’s people & culture. They added, “The Sussexes need to stop using Nigeria & Africa as a PR prop.” Meanwhile, one of Meg’s supporters reacted, saying, “Do us a favour and leave Meghan alone.”
