My 600 Lb Life star, Mark Rutland, wants to do things by himself. In the preview from the latest episode, Mark opened up about his decision not to undergo his weight loss surgery. The TLC star made a difficult announcement to go against his doctor’s advice. Due to his weight, his everyday tasks feel like “torture”. In a clip obtained by People, the Florida native explained that being at his current weight has broken him mentally.
Although Mark is well aware of his health problems and knows that he can make significant changes, he can’t control his binge eating. Rutland revealed that he cannot stop eating as it is the only time he finds relief from physical pain and feels happy. The TLC star’s careless attitude and fast food addiction caused his weight to reach 715 lbs.
It was at that point that he realized he needed life-saving assistance from Houston-based bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan. However, Mark chose not to follow Nowzaradan’s suggestion of weight loss surgery and instead decided to do it naturally. He believed that altering his way of living would enable him to lose up to 500 pounds without any assistance.
In the video, Mark updated his parents, saying that he had been working with a gym trainer. And also told that he was making satisfactory progress in losing weight. However, despite this progress, he asserted that he had no intention of undergoing surgery and hoped to avoid it completely.

The My 600 Lb Life star, Mark Rutland, talked to his parents about his decision. However, his parents did not seem to be satisfied. However, Mark’s mother advised him to talk to his sister April, who is a nurse, before making any final decision. Therefore, the star makes a call to his sister and informed her about his decision. However, just like his doctor and other family members, April held a similar viewpoint and strongly disagreed with him.
Mark’s sister told him that it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that he should not miss out on. The My 600 Lb Life star acknowledged April’s advice and said that he understands it and he knows that he got the best doctor for his weight loss surgery. However, it’s not an easy decision for him not to do it. Mark’s father pointed out that he had only lost 160 lbs. This suggests that Mark still needs to lose a considerable amount of weight before he can be considered eligible for the surgery.
However, Mark refuses to hear the same thing that he already heard from his doctor. He believed that working hard and doing everything he can would eventually take care of the number on the scale.
