Abi Ruiz was on Season 12 of My 600 Lb Life. He had gained weight long ago, but an accident worsened his situation. The star was in a car accident that left him paralyzed. He was bedridden for seven years and had “bed sores and lymphedema.” Abi described his situation as painful and said his wife was the only good thing in his life.
Dr. Now usually treats patients in his clinic. But this time, he made an exception for Abi. Since Abi could not come to him, Dr. Now went to Abi and saw how bad the situation was. He immediately decided to transfer Abi to a hospital to help him control his diet. All of the doctor’s efforts paid off, as Abi did lose weight, but it was still a long journey.
Abi isn’t active on social media. So, we don’t know his current state. However, his wife, Brenda, does post some updates on social media. Brenda posted a photo of Abi and their dogs on Instagram in March 2024. Abi was still bedridden in the photo, but that wasn’t something a single surgery could fix. However, he looked happier.

Abi revealed that he was skinny as a kid. His weight loss started during puberty. When he moved to college in Florida, he was ” 420 lbs.” But the My 600 Lb Life star lost weight again when he returned to Puerto Rico and started working.
However, a single accident changed Abi’s entire life. It paralyzed Abi as he “lost feeling” below his chest. The accident also left him bedridden, which led to weight gain. Abi initially weighed 728lbs on the show. Dr. Now decided to put him in a hospital to control his food intake and lifestyle.
Consequently, he lost 605lbs in a month. The star’s next weight landmark was 572 lbs, and he could go for a weight loss procedure. After a rigorous journey, Abi was down to 403 lbs.
