With a rich background from her work on Coronation Street, Sophie is set to infuse the ITV soap with bold storylines. She will collaborate closely with Executive Producer Iain MacLeod and ITV Drama Commissioner Huw Kennair-Jones.
Sophie Roper Joins Emmerdale As New Producer
Sophie Roper, who previously worked on Coronation Street, has joined Emmerdale as the new producer. She’ll team up with Laura Shaw to oversee the show’s storytelling, casting, and production. Sophie will also work closely with Iain MacLeod, the Executive Producer for Continuing Drama.
She will also collaborate with John Whiston, the Managing Director of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North, and Huw Kennair-Jones, ITV’s Drama Commissioner. Iain expressed his excitement about Sophie’s arrival, labelling her as a ‘real talent’ with a natural eye for big, bold stories.
The Emmerdale maker believes she is the perfect person to uphold soap’s tradition of challenging and exciting narratives. He also promised a more engrossing, exhilarating, and emotional experience ahead. Meanwhile, Kennair-Jones expressed his excitement about Roper joining Shaw as a producer.
He noted that after her successful time as a Story Producer, they were thrilled to have Sophie bring her creative storytelling skills and passion to Emmerdale. He even eagerly anticipated the exciting developments she would bring. Sophie started her new job in April this year.
Before this, Sophie was the Story Producer for Dales. During her time at Corrie, she helped create some thrilling storylines, including the live episode in 2015. In the episode, Sarah Platt killed Callum Logan, and his body was hidden under Gail’s extension for almost a year.
More Bold & Groundbreaking Plots Ahead
The new producer expressed her excitement about joining Emmerdale, stating that she feels privileged to be part of the show as a lifelong soap fan. Sophie remarked that Emmerdale is a special place both on and offscreen. She promised, “I look forward to bringing more bold and groundbreaking drama to the Dales.”
Additionally, we know that there has been a lot of change in both ITV soaps’ tea. Sophie and Laura Shaw are now Dales’ producers. Over at Corrie, Kate Brooks is now in charge.
