As we know, King Charles is undergoing treatment for his recently diagnosed cancer. Owing to the same, he has had to step back from many royal duties as well as public appearances. In the light of the same, The King will remain absent from the upcoming Commonwealth Day. However, his absence will not stop him from addressing his nation and the rest of the world.
The King has issues a pre-recorded addressal that will be played Westminster Abbey at a 2,000-guest ceremony. At the event King Charles will be represented by Queen Camilla, while Prince William and other members of the Royal Family will also be present. Although, Princess Kate will give the ceremony a miss, as she continues to recover in private after her abdominal surgery.
King Charles 615-Word Commonwealth Day Address
It has been revealed that in his address, The King will reflect on how the ceremony is almost as old as him. “Having recently celebrated my own 75th birthday, it warms my heart to reflect on the way the Commonwealth has been a constant throughout my own life — a precious source of strength, inspiration and pride.” Furthermore, King Charles will also be thanking everyone for all the love and support he has received for his health.
In return of the love and good wishes, in his address he will be pledging to serve “to the best of my ability. Throughout the Commonwealth.” His address also asserts his belief in the shared endeavors and in the potential of the people. “I have no doubt that we will continue to support one another across the Commonwealth. As, together, we continue this vital journey.”
King Charles has recorded this message last month at Windsor Castle. It is believed that despite his cancer struggles and ongoing treatment, he wishes to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government conference. Which is slated to be held in Samoa this October. The Commonwealth consists of 56 members has grown further with African nations, Togo and Gabon, joining them last year. Thus, asserting the King’s belief in his and the nations’ common ambitions for a better future.
