It has been some time since the General Hospital mob boss Sonny got washed away in the river and ended up in the Nixon Falls. He does not have any memory of who he was. Ever since he came to the town, he has given himself a new identity and has now even earned a place in the small town.
Like all other amnesia storylines on the soap opera, the chief tension point here revolves around the tickling clock of when Sonny’s memories might come back and how the actions of his current life may damage his past life. However, now, Sonny is making more connections in the town, and it looks like Sonny might be here for a longer stint. Why do we feel so? There are a number of reasons why we do think that Nixon falls might become a permanent setting for Sonny on General Hospital. Here are all the possible reasons-
This Would Give Other Characters The Opportunity
Over the years, many fans have suggested that Sonny and Jason have always taken over the best arcs relegating all the other characters of the show. Both of them share the super couple statuses with Carly and Sam while also maintain a walking personality tightrope of danger and honor. So, while this field trip out of Port Charles will prove to be a turning point for Sonny, it will also give some screen time for other characters.
General Hospital: Sonny Is Getting Comfortable In Nixon Falls
Despite everything that amnesia brings, Sonny is getting comfortable in Nixon Falls. He has sold off his poker winnings to help the Caulfields with the money trouble. He has even put himself in danger trying to defend Tan-O. Now he wants Nina to write an article about the town in Crimson. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Green has diagnosed Sonny with bipolar disorder and provided him with medication. Caulfield’s have also given him shelter and living wage, and their trust.
Now, if the show writers are building a storyline for him to remember his identity or balk at the realization that he has given up his mob life, this does not look like a way to just give audiences some feel-good moments. It looks like this is a way to show a more peaceful side of Sonny, and if there is a master plan to strip this all away again, Sonny is easier to love as Mike because he doesn’t remember some of the things that Sonny has done.
Crossroads Might Come Up Later In Life
In the previous week, Nina asked Mike why he wasn’t searching for his true identity. To this, he says that he likes it there in the Nixon Falls, his new home, his new friends. So, it looks like the show writers might be paralleling Sonny’s commitment to Nixon Falls by showing viewers more of the town. Another interesting thing about this stint is that Sonny chose the name, Mike. It might not only be because he read the name on his watch but because it is also the name of Sonny’s father- Michael Corbin.
Corbin would eventually pass away from Alzheimer’s. So, it is possible that down the road, Sonny might find himself in the midlife crossroads where sooner or later her will gain the objective of his life and perhaps the disturbing clarity of his life. So, what will happen down the road for Sonny? We will have to wait and watch. We will keep you updated with all the information. General Hospital airs on ABC all weekdays. So, make sure you tune in and enjoy everything that the soap opera is bringing in.
