He told Portia it was because of Stella Henry that he came across some very beautiful things like art. He described that Stella used to take Curtis to all the museums and great places that brought him closer to art. So, it is possible that she wasn’t dealing with the grief of losing a partner, but it was abandonment instead. She was never the same after she realized that her husband had left the family. Especially because she blamed herself for his mistakes.
