Eileen Davidson Opens Up About Childhood Struggles And Overcoming Shame
In the latest episode of Benard’s video podcast, Davidson pulled back the curtain on her childhood struggles and upbringing. The Y&R star shares her personal struggles growing up in a strict Catholic family and how therapy and her own life experiences helped her overcome the burden of shame. Surprisingly, it was her time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that helped her uncover the root of those emotions. While she was seeing a therapist, she pointed out that she carried a lot of shame, something that she had never recognized in herself before.
The realization was uncomfortable for Davidson. But it ultimately led her to reflect on her past experiences and work towards healing. Further in the podcast, Davidson reveals that her father exhibits manic/depressive behavior. She shared how it affected her as a child, with him often not speaking to her for months and walking by her like she didn’t exist. Davidson recalled how her mother would come up with excuses for her father’s behavior, saying he fell off a horse when he was a kid.
Davidson recounted the rollercoaster of emotions her father’s manic/depression would take them on. “He’d have these grand ideas, like taking us all on vacation or showering us with gifts like diamond earrings and leather coats, but then he would withdraw and disappear again.” Not only did Davidson open up about her father suffering. But she also talked up her mother being an incest survivor. Despite the challenges they faced, her parents raised seven children, which Davidson calls “heroic.” She explained how therapy and her own life experiences helped her come to terms with her parents’ struggles.
