There has been a lot of chatter about actor Marcus Coloma’s exit from General Hospital where he plays the iconic character of Nikolas Cassadine. Rumors first started doing rounds when netizens noticed that the talented actor had unfollowed all his GH co-stars on Instagram. Fans started wondering if this was Marcus’s passive-aggressive response for getting fired from the ABC soap. However, in subsequent days, Marcus’s team released a press-release that stated the reason of his exit.
Apparently, Marcus was not fired from his role but had to opt out of playing Nik on General Hospital owing to health reasons. Additionally, the star stated that he and the makers had reached an understanding that it would be best if he didn’t film the remaining of his scenes for the soap. He once again cited his post-COVID health issues as the reason. Marcus’s last episode as Nikolas Cassadine aired on January 26, 2023. Actor Adam Huss has now taken over the role for the remaining scenes.
“It Hurt,” Says Marcus Coloma On His Exit From General Hospital
The General Hospital star recently appeared on GH alum Steve Burton’s online show, That’s Awesome, with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson. Amongst many things, Marcus also discussed his journey as Nik on General Hospital. Speaking about his exit from the show, the ex-Nik admitted that it hurt. He shared that he was aware that the end was near, but he had no idea it would hurt this badly. He pointed out that the makers didn’t ask him to stay back. They offered no negotiation. However, he stated that while he doesn’t understand the reason behind their decision, he doesn’t feel fired.
Despite feeling hurt over his exit from General Hospital, Marcus feels grateful for his journey on the ABC soap. Moreover, he admitted that had the makers asked him to stay, he would’ve faced a really tough decision. He loves being on the show but also has bigger dreams that he wants to pursue outside of the soap. However, he clarified that his time on General Hospital was exemplary. The best thing about his journey was the fanbase that GH enjoys. Marcus believes that in his 25 years of acting career, he has never seen the kind of fans that GH has.
Marcus admired the General Hospital Fandom and said they are very passionate, involved, and positive. “They’re very much like a family,” he asserted. Well, with that, Marcus’ journey as Nikolas Cassadine has come to an end. Talking about his future endeavors, the star shared that he currently taking some time off to write.
