This is a sad day for long-time General Hospital viewers. Stuart Damon is no longer with us. Damon was quite famous for playing the fan-favorite character Dr. Alan Quartermaine on the soap opera. He played the character for more than three decades. Unfortunately, Damon passed away aged 84.
This news was confirmed when General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentin took onto Twitter to extend his condolences on behalf of everyone at General Hospital. He said that everyone loved him, as Stuart was an absolute legend, and he will be sorely missed.
Speaking to ABC7’s entertainment reporter George Pennacchio, Stuart’s son Christopher said that his father struggled with renal failure for a few years now. He also said that General Hospital was his father’s favorite place to be. He loved playing the character of Alan and appreciated the job and what it came with.
Damon first joined the soap opera in 1977. He continued to play the character until 2013. He was also a part of the spin-off titled Port Charles. Although Dr. Alan Quartermaine had died in 2007, Stuart came back to Port Charles as a ghost. All fans and co-actors loved and cherished Stuart. Damon also received Emmy nominations seven times and won the award in 1999.
Along with General Hospital, he was a part of a number of tv shows and movies. In the 1965 movie Cinderella, he played the prince, was a part of shows like The Champions and Space: 1999. As for the soap world, he was also a part of Days of Our Lives and As the World Turns for a short time.
General Hospital: Damon’s Co-Stars Pay Tribute
Being in the soap opera world for about three decades, Stuart Damon had touched many lives. He had made great friends on sets of General Hospital. So, as soon as the news of him passing away surfaced, his co-stars and friends took onto their social media to pay their tribute to the legend. Genie Francis, who plays Laura on General Hospital, posted a throwback picture with Stuart. She captioned the photo by telling everyone that she is so grateful to have had Damon in her life. She is very sad today.
Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny wrote- When he heard the news, he was hurt. He always wanted Stuart to be Sonny’s long-lost dad. In his post, Maurice called Stuart Classy, real and someone who always made him feel safe.
Nancy Lee Grahn also shared the news and said that Stuart was a lovely, funny, talented Prince of a man. She said that he was truly charming. It was a pleasure for her to have had the opportunity to work with Stuart’s iconic self. She also sent condolences to his family. All the fans and people who knew Stuart are filled with the feeling of loss.
