The plotline is definitely going to be emotional, considering Chas’s own mother Faith’s tragic cancer history. Through the storyline, Emmerdale intends to highlight the realities of this disease. The show makers have promised that the storyline is a blend of her personal relationships and fears, which will bring a raw and meaningful essence to the plot. Let us see how the Dingle family will handle Chas at this sensitive time!
Chas Dingle To Face A Battle Against Breast Cancer
Emmerdale character Chas Dingle is in for a devastating breast cancer storyline. In the upcoming episode, she discovers a lump in her breast. What scares Chas the most is her mother who also met with a tragic death due to cancer. Amidst a romantic plot with Doctor Liam, Chas finds out about a lump in her breast. Initially, the local doctor suggested that it can’t be cancer mandatorily, it could be a cyst or something. But after getting checked, Chas is diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer.
Although Chas is scared to end up like her mother, she decides to hide the news from everyone. The Emmerdale producer, Kate Brooks, said, “When this story was first pitched, we were acutely aware how important it was to explore this.” The maker added that Chas is a strong character and is a bedrock of the Dingles. Hence, the show aims to show the impact on not just her but her immediate family.
“Chas Was The Right Character To Play This With,” Says Emmerdale Maker
Emmerdale boss highlighted, “With Lucy Pargeter’s innate ability to showcase Chas’s vulnerabilities beneath her hardened exterior, we knew she was absolutely the right character to play this with.” Additionally, the Chas Dingle actress Lucy Pargeter expressed her views on the plot. She said, “When the producers first discussed this storyline with me, I knew I didn’t want us to shy away from any aspect of this diagnosis for Chas.”
The actress mentioned that Chas saw her own mother ultimately die after an incurable breast cancer diagnosis. Hence, for Chas to receive a breast cancer diagnosis herself makes it all the more poignant. Lucy expressed that the Emmerdale fans know Chas so well. So, for them to see this story play out will be more meaningful. Additionally, she labelled this ‘the beauty of genre Soap.’
Emmerdale star Lucy hoped that she could do justice with the storyline as it is a huge responsibility. She stated, “It won’t be all doom and gloom, there will be ups and downs just like with anything. But I hope it looks and feels real.” She added that they could do some good if even a small number of patients seek help for breast changes that don’t feel or look right.
