Emmerdale: Eric Faces Pressure Of Hiding His Illness, Loses His Temper With Brenda

This week, Eric confirmed having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. After receiving the diagnosis, Eric tries to push Brenda away. This is his attempt to protect Brenda so that she doesn’t get hurt later. He makes her feel that he isn’t interested in her anymore by lashing out at her. Earlier, we saw Eric confessing about his illness and breaking down in front of Mandy Dingle. He made her swear that she would keep it a secret. Mandy tries to make him understand that he should confront Brenda, but he chooses the other way around.

After deciding not to tell Brenda, Eric is going through a lot of stress about his health issues and the constant pressure of hiding the truth. He thinks he will be a burden on Brenda in the future. Mandy tries to support him and joins him for a hospital appointment. Eric ends his relationship with Brenda, leaving her shocked. While Brenda faces confusion with Eric’s behaviour, his son David Metcalfe also struggles to understand the reason for his strange moods. Later, Nicola King’s advice makes the whole situation worse.

Emmerdale is consulting Parkinson’s UK charity while working on Eric’s storyline. Emmerdale star Chris Chittell (Eric Pollard) stated, “I feel really privileged to be given this storyline. Parkinson’s is indiscriminate, deceptive and wickedly unkind, targeting so many. He added that he wants to do justice to the storyline for the courageous people who are dealing with Parkinson’s. We hope Emmerdale succeeds in raising awareness. What do you think? When Brenda and David find out, how will they react??
