Emmerdale’s longest-running character is about to bid his farewell to the show. David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) is set to exit the village after almost two decades in the Dales. David made his appearance on the soap in 2006 in the search of his estranged father, Eric Pollard. Over the years, he has become a crucial character with multiple romances and marriages.
Emmerdale star Matthews Wolfenden has been showcasing his acting prowess. He began his career with the musical Saturday Night Fever. However, he got the most recognition from Emmerdale; he has also been a part of Hollyoaks spin-off, Let Loose, and had a one-off part in drama The Courtroom. He also made an appearance on the reality show Dancing on Ice in 2012. The actor also married co-star Charley Webb, but the couple revealed they had split up in November 2023.
The character will make his last Emmerdale appearance on December 1, 2023. He is making his emotional exit after his stepson Jacob and ex-Victoria Sugden’s affair is exposed. Also, he learned that his father had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s diagnosis. Additionally, Wolfenden’s decision to leave was announced back in September. At that time, a source cited the reason for his departure as a desire for change and new opportunities. However, doors are always open for a return, rumors suggest that scriptwriters began plotting his dramatic exit since then.
Emmerdale star Wolfenden has already bagged a role. He will play the character of Buddy in the musical adaptation of Elf at London’s Dominion Theatre over Christmas 2023.
