New Year on Emmerdale starts on a rather grim note, thus setting an intense tone for the ITV soap in 2024. Those who tuned into the last episodes of 2023 saw the Hope twins, along with Angelica, make an extremely dangerous decision. And when reckless acts like such are embarked upon, a tragedy is certain. That’s exactly what happened in the Emmerdale village.
After the teen’s NYE party plans went sideways, they decided to attend another house party in Hotten. The only problem was that neither of the teens was old enough actually to drive. Thus, Cathy came up with a minacious idea. She stole Wendy’s car keys and offered to drive all of them to Hotten. Assuring them all that she can easily handle an automatic. April showed some sense and tried to persuade them all that driving without a license would be dangerous.
Unfortunately, none of the other youngsters wanted to listen to her on Emmerdale. Thus, April stayed behind while Cathy drove off with Heath and Angelica toward the NYE bash. April then informed Bob and Wendy about the others’ whereabouts. They try to continually call the kids but the teens just ignore the phones. Instead, Angelica and Heath push Cathy to drive even faster. Meanwhile, Bob and Wendy set out to stop the teens from driving into any trouble.
However, their worst fears come true when they spot the car driven off the road on Emmerdale. Cathy and Angelica are shell-shocked at what has just happened. While Bob and Wendy find a bloodied Heath in the back of the car, Wendy immediately calls an ambulance, hoping to rush a motionless Heath to the hospital. As the teen battles for his life, she then tries to give him chest compressions, but heartbreakingly, she finds no pulse. Later, a devastated Bob tells Brenda and The Kings that Heath has passed away.
Speaking about the tragic death to Digital Spy, actor Tony Audenshaw pointed out that it was quite a shock even for him. “But that’s what they were going for,” he reflected. Tony also shared that his character – Bob, has gone through some really heavy and dark stuff on Emmerdale. He had a heart attack and an affair. So he was hoping that things would be lighter ahead, but then this shocker came up! Unfortunately, the tough times are still not over.
In the upcoming episodes, he has to watch his daughter being investigated on Emmerdale. Moreover, his character just admitted that he couldn’t bear to speak to his daughter.
