Soap Star Tameka Empson rose to fame for her portrayal of Kim Fox on EastEnders. She has been playing the role on and off since 2009 on the BBC soap. Earlier this year, she was part of a really moving and social cause based storyline. Where she dealt with panic attacks and anxiety after the car crash that left young Denzel Danes hospitalised. She was then charged with dangerous driving and briefly imprisoned. Eventually, she accepted help from a professional therapist, starting her journey to recovery.
Now, the latest news reports state that Tameka is putting her character and the storylines on hold on EastEnders. The talented actress is taking a break from the BBC soap in order to accommodate a new project. She is temporarily exiting Albert Square to step on to stage under the spotlight of theatre. Tameka Empson has bagged an iconic role in the Theatre Royal Stratford East’s production of – The Big Life.

Interestingly, not only is Tameka Empson starring in the musical, she also happens to have co-written it. The EastEnders star will star as Mrs. Aphrodite. The special production honors and celebrates the the 20th anniversary of The Big Life’s premiere on the Stratford East stage. The musical blends some Shakespearean stories (Love’s Labours Lost) with modern tales that are inspired by the Windrush generation of migrants from the Caribbean.
The EastEnders actress will also be joined by Olivier Award-nominated stage star- Gabrielle Brooks. Other names of the cast include- Juliet Agnes best known for her appearance in Top Boy, and Hamilton star Khalid Daley. The musical will run from Friday, February 16, 2024 through Saturday, March 30, 2024. The production is set to have a limited run.
As for her stint on EastEnders, “Tameka is taking a short break and will be returning,” a source close to the BBC One soap confirmed.
