EastEnders legend Lorraine Stanley spilled tea on her latest venture following her temporary hiatus as Karen Taylor. She is jumping into the feature film Departures, rubbing elbows with Hollyoaks’ David Tag, Emmerdale’s Liam Boyle, and Waterloo Road’s Olly Rhodes. Lorraine snagged the role of Benji’s mum, Janet, and will hit up Manchester for the shoot. This flick is the brainchild of directors Neil Ely and Lloyd Eyre-Morgan, known for working on Channel 4’s short film S.A.M. starring George Webster. Read on to know more!
EastEnders: Lorraine Lands a Movie Role!
The release date of Lorriane Stanley’s new venture is not out yet but the EastEnders star is full of joy to be working on the upcoming project. She gave props to her Departures crew after wrapping up on EastEnders in 2023. Lorraine said, “It was a pleasure to work in Manchester with Lloyd and Neil, and a really lovely cast and crew.” Moreover, she elaborated that the LGBTQ tale dives into grief and shedding toxic ties.
The EastEnders legend doesn’t stop there. Stanley poured her heart out to express gratitude and praised the directors. Lorraine said, “I’ve worked with Lloyd Eyre-Morgan before and love his style of work.” She also admitted how Janet’s character drew her in. Her character has been through a rough patch but is still trying to be there for her son, Benji. And what about her time in Manchester?
It turns out EastEnders star Lorraine ditched her train home for a spontaneous night out in the Gay Village. “We had such a great night, and I met some of the loveliest people!! I love Manchester, everyone’s friendlier up north.” She clearly had a blast in Cottonoplis! Now, let’s talk a bit about the upcoming feature! Departures is a “British northern gritty comedy-drama” that follows Benji’s wild ride back to Amsterdam.
On his way back, Benji grapples with the aftermath of a fling with a married bisexual man he met there. Furthermore, Benji strives for redemption and self-discovery in the midst of the chaos of toxic relationships and beer-soaked nights. The flick promises a perfect amalgamation of laughs, tears, and inspiration.
