The world of soap operas is big yet small, so actors sometimes become a part of two rival soaps. Recently, EastEnders icon Sophie Thompson talked about her stint in a rival soap. Fans know that few actors feature in both the BBC soap and ITV counterpart Coronation Street.
As per reports, the 62-year-old actress has been a part of both Walford and Weatherfield on different occasions. Keep reading to find out what she said about it.
EastEnders Icon Sophie Talked About Her Stint On Corrie
Sophie Thompson is an amazing actress but was still nervous when she was offered a part in Coronation Street. She was starstruck, but Sue Nicholls helped her ease into it. While speaking at the Sunday morning ITV Show, Sophie said, “Sue Nicholls just has funny bones, and even the nerves got overrun by the fact she just made me laugh… I couldn’t stop laughing!”
Thompson also spoke about how she took her role in Coronation Street very seriously since she was in a guest role. The actress played the guest role of Rosemary Piper. She used to work with conman Lewis and targeted Audrey for her first revenge plan. While talking about her guest role, she said, “When you’re a guest, and you’re not there for very long, you’re very conscious about not rocking the boat.”
As for her personal life, Thompson is the sister of Dame Emma Thompson and the daughter of actors Eric Thompson and Phyllida Law. She has won one Olivie Award and five more nominations. Sophie was a regular in EastEnders between 2006 and 2007, almost a decade before her Corrie appearance.
She played the role of Stella Crawford, who was Phil’s Mitchell, and the duo then became a couple. Long-time viewers know that Stella was cruel and used to abuse Phil’s son, Ben mentally. Her character on the show died on her wedding day when she jumped off a roof.
We would love to see Sophie returning to Walford with some dark, twisted storyline. What do you think? Tell us in the comments below. In the meantime, TV Season & Spoilers will keep bringing you all the EastEnders updates!
