EastEnders: Jay’s Life Finally Starts To Look Up, Jamie Borthwick Opens Up About Future

The viewers took a blow to their hearts when Lola Pearce-Brown drew her last breath on EastEnders. Walford’s beloved hairdresser succumbed to a brain tumour earlier this year. Her death devastated both Jay and Lexi the most. Surprisingly, Lola returned to Jay’s life with a special Christmas message, which obviously left him shell-shocked. EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick recently reacted to his late onscreen wifey’s message. Please read what the actor has to say about it.

Jay Gets A New Ray Of Hope On EastEnders

Following Lola’s tragic death, Jay was all alone this festive season. Therefore, he chose to spend Christmas in the company of the Mitchells. He was shocked upon viewing Lola’s video that she had recorded before passing away. In the video, Lola revealed that Jay and Honey Mitchell would participate in the London Marathon later in the year. It would serve as a tribute to her memory. Now the upcoming scenes depict Jay kicking off the training sessions for the event.

Sharing his thoughts on Lola’s message, Borthwick called it a “clever idea.” He added that Jay would willingly embark on a training session to honour Lola’s memory. The actor acknowledged that Jay’s first Christmas without Lola is obviously sad and challenging. Surprisingly, his character got a very heartfelt present from his late wife. Furthermore, Jamie spoke about Jay’s reaction at the time. “He’s certainly shocked! He didn’t expect it, but he takes it on with an open mind and has a ‘go for it’ attitude”. He also mentioned that Jay is determined and wants to do it for Lola and Lexi.

Additionally, the actor explained that marathon preparation will bring out a positive change in Jay. His character has had a dark past of drug use and escaped death in a fatal car accident on EastEnders. Thus, the challenge will make him focused and clear. Moreover, Borthwick revealed that Lexi would join his stepdad during the prep to encourage him. And that Jay will welcome the challenge as a breath of fresh air. Jay has always been a laid-back guy, never a running enthusiast. He added jokingly, “While some of the lads are out doing a 5k every morning, he’s usually in the caff!”

Since Lola’s death, it was clear that Jay had to carry the torch and continue with life. Could this be the moment that would bring Jay to the brighter side of life? Please let us know your thoughts on the matter. Keep reading TV Season and Spoilers for all the fresh updates on EastEnders.
