Actor Jamie Borthwick debuted as Jay Brown on EastEnders back in 2006 and has been iconic to the show ever since. Over the years, Jay has been part of many important storylines, and has gone through many us and downs in life. However, his most poignant story thus far has to be the one with Lola and her heartbreaking demise. Earlier in 2023, Jay and his wife, Lola Pearce reconciled, only to be hit hard by the news of Lola’s incurable brain tumor.
As devastated as Jay was, he stood by Lola without wavering on EastEnders. Their portrayal of this heart wrenching story line won them both rave reviewed. From fans as well as critics. Even after Lola passed away, Jay has been quite present in Lola’s daughter, Lexi’s, life. He is doing his bets to co-parent her alongside Ben and Callum. Speaking about this story, Jamie told Soap Insider that Jay has indeed hit lowest low. “Jay’s had many low points in his life, but the lowest one is right now, at this moment, after losing Lola,” he pointed.
Furthermore, Jamie shared that Jay looks all tough and hard from the outside on EastEnders. However, it is far from the real truth. Deep inside, he is a real softie. Things really hit him hard, he cares about what people think. The Lola storyline really tapped into that sensitive and soft side of him. Perhaps that has played a crucial role in connected Jamie more to the character. As he is now even started to think and pitch ideas about what Jay’s future stories could be on the soap.
Jamie’s Ideas For Jay Brown On EastEnders
Jamie revealed that before this point he has never really pitched any ideas to EastEnders writers. However, recently, he texted the soap’s boss, Chris Chelnshaw, some ideas of his own. Interestingly, Chris is known to keep communication open between himself and his actors. Thus, there is a great chance that some part of version of Jamie’s idea could actually play out on the screen soon. As for what the idea is, Jamie decided to keep in under wraps for now.
Although the EastEnders star promised that if it ever reaches the screen, he will definitely point it out. However, he has one more idea for Jay that he didn’t mind sharing! “Jay dresses like a nerd,” he joked. He wears tight shirts and skinny jeans, which apparently is not cool according to Jamie.
