Ever since news broke out that Michelle Collins was reviving her EastEnders role of Cindy Beale, we knew a storm was building. Recently, the highly anticipated return of the previously presumed dead Cindy played out on TV. And it was every bit as dramatic as we thought it would be. However, what we did not see coming was the disastrous and dangerous impact it would have on her daughters she had with George Knight, under her identity as Rose.
Rose’s Thorns Prick Gina
In the August 30, 2023, episode of EastEnders, Cindy/Rose finally came face-to-face with her daughters, Gina and Anna. This was a moment that Gina hoped never to experience. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always works the way we hope. Thus, when Cindy tries to explain her side of the story to her daughters, they reject her. Neither Anna nor Gina want anything to have with their mother anymore. In fact, they felt so triggered by seeing her and the real truth behind her disappearance and identity that they bolted straight out of The Vic and to the pub hoping to drown their sorrows in alcohol. Sadly, what followed shortly after started a new round of crisis on the BBC One soap.
In a shocking turn of events, George chased after his daughters to make sure they remained safe on EastEnders. Unfortunately, he reached to them a little bit too late. By the time he got to them, Gina had already overdosed on a line of drugs. A terrified George and Cindy awaited at the hospital, hoping and praying for their daughter’s well-being. Thankfully, Gina pulled through, and the doctors assured George that she would make a full recovery. However, when George visited her, she confessed to him that Cindy’s return opened up many wounds for her.

She further admits to George that after Rose abandoned them nine years ago, she thought she would never have to face the horror of seeing her again. But seeing her in person triggered Gina so much that she needed to stop the hurt inside. Gina told George that she was almost functioning on autopilot. When someone offered her a line, she just snotted it up without thinking because the pain inside her was too much. This confession really ripped George’s heart open. After all, which father would want to see their child experience such excruciating pain.
After the whole dramatic event, what is George going to do? It seems highly unlikely that Gina and Anna would forgive Cindy so easily. They already told her that she is “Nine years too late.” Will she be forced to leave Walford again? Although in the August 31, 2023, EastEnders episode, she clearly told Ian that he better find a way for them to stay in Walford. So if she does stay back, what new storm will she create?
