The Panesar family was left rattled when Nugget’s mother Priya suddenly returned to their lives on EastEnders. However, the most interesting and shocking fact was that Ravi’s ex did not return alone but with her daughter, Avani. Whom she claims is Ravi’s daughter. A daughter he newver knew he had.
While, this is not a story line that hasn’t been done before on soaps, but something about it is off! When Avani first showed up on-screen, she didn’t strike as a young teenager. But the shock value of Ravi having a secret daughter was startling enough for us to lose focus on her age.
However, once the initial shock of her existence settled. We and many other EastEnders fans started to notice that Avani just does not look like a 13 year old kid. Now, hear us out, we are not age shaming, look shaming or anything like that. We are just speaking in context of what this could mean for the story.
The actress portraying Avani (Aaliyah James) happens to be 23 years old in real life. And while she really doesn’t look 23, she also does not look 13! So we can’t help but wonder why the makers chose to cast her in the role!
EastEnders: What’s Really Up Avani?
Now, there is certainly no dearth of young actors in the TV industry. EastEnders itself has plenty of them. So why this particular casting? Could this be a deliberate move? What if some time down the line, it is revealed that Avani is not who she and Priya claim her to be. What if she is a con artist? When Priya’s return to Walford was first teased, many spoilers and news reported that she will bring along a lot of drama and secrets. So what if Priya has actually hired Avani to play her and Ravi’s daughter as part of a con to dupe the family?
Ever since she debuted on the soap, there have been many red flags in her portrayal. Even if we forego the fact that she appears older than 13, her behaviour too, don’t align with that age. In one of the recent episodes of EastEnders, she tried to hit on Martin, and he schooled her by insisting that she is a kid, Later, she was shown drinking Priya’s coffee.
