TV Season & Spoilers previously reported that fan favourite – Jacqueline Joass is returning to EastEnders as Lauren Branning. In her previous media interactions, she teased that her return to the square will be explosive. Moreover, soap boss- Chris Clenshaw had spilled that she will be in the center of some epic Branning family drama! Now, a new round of media reports reveal that this Branning Family reunion is getting bigger than we first believed!
Another long-lost daughter of the family is returning to the fold! Long-time viewers of EastEnders will be familiar with the name – Penny! For the unversed, she happens to be Jack Branning‘s daughter who has not been seen in Walford for the past 15 years. For the longest of time she had been living in France with her mother Selina Branning. But that’s about to change in the upcoming weeks. According to the reports, rising star Kitty Castledine has been cast to portray the role.
The Drama Begins On EastEnders
Penny’s return to Walford will tie in with her cousin – Lauren’s return. This will make for a rather uncomfortable reunion between Penny and her father Jack. Owing to the fact that he hasn’t seen his wheelchair-bound daughter in over a decade now on EastEnders. Speaking about her role to the media, Kitty revealed that she is ecstatic to be on the soap. “My whole family are EastEnders fans, and I remember sitting on my Nanny Kay’s lap to tune in,” she enthused. This will be KItty’s first ever TV role. She divulged that she could never have imagined that she would bag such a role so soon out of drama school.
Pointing towards the fact that Penny is paralyzed waist down, Kitty said that it is important to include disabled talent on screen. The EastEnders debutante is also a wheelchair user in real life. Therefore, the role feels much closer to her heart. Previously, actress Mia McKenna-Bruce was portraying the role of a younger Penny . She most recently appeared in Netflix film Persuasion. But it is to be noted that soap boss Chris Clenshaw revealed that Penny will seem like a different person now. A far cry from what fans might remember her. Kitty’s Penny will come across as a very difficults person.
