Doubling Down With The Derricos: Deon & Karen Reminisce Old Memories

Karen and Deon filed for divorce on June 4. It became official two days later, on June 6. The former couple will continue to co-parent their 14 children together. Moreover, Karen has decided to keep her last name, Derrico. “Together, we remain unified in the parenting of our 14 beautiful children – their well-being is our priority,” they said in a joint statement following the news of their split. “We thank everyone for their understanding and support as we move forward for the good of our family.”

Derricos’ search for a new house seemingly comes to an end in the Doubling Down With The Derricos season 5 finale. In a preview clip posted on TLC’s Instagram, the family reminisced about their old memories as they said goodbye to their old house. Deon described the experience as “bittersweet.” He added, “This house has been the OG that has really seen a lot of y’all.” He continued, “Remember, the younger five babies, they only remember this house.”

Members of the family took turns sharing their favorite memories in the house. Karen reminisced, “Bringing the babies home.” The scene cut to a flashback of Karen holding newborn triplets Dawsyn, De’Aren and Dyver as Deon and the children met them for the first time. The kids talked about how they would miss “hot cocoa” and celebrating Thanksgiving with Deon’s nephew Amani in the house. The clip also included Karen recalling the time the family decorated a Christmas tree with an ornament in memory of their late son Carter.

In January 2018, Karen filed for bankruptcy, revealing assets of $12,519 and liabilities of $47,567. Her monthly income was $2,480, while her expenses were $2,560. She owed $27,000 in student loans and owned various assets including homes in Vegas and Detroit, a 2007 Saturn Aura, furniture, electronics and clothes. At the time, she worked as a bank teller at the Bank of America and had reported an income of $39,096 for 2017.

The bankruptcy case was initially requested to be dismissed due to missed payments and incomplete documentation. It eventually converted to Chapter 7, and her debt was discharged in February 2019.
