Reality is often stranger than fiction, and that is a case often true on the sets of Days of Our Lives. The soap has had many chuckles over the years by pulling off some really bizarre stunts. Like have Robert Scott Wilson play two different characters on the same show without even being look alike. Now, it has pulled the same stunt again, by making Emily O’Brien slip into Theresa’s shoes. While she had been playing Gwen for more than three years on the soap. As bewildering as it is for us viewers, the actresses’ reaction was no different to the change.
“I didn’t know how to feel about it,” Emily admits to Soap Opera Digest in a recent chat. The Days of Our Lives star shared that she had never slipped into anyone else’s character before. Moreover, she felt that she was nothing like Jen Lilley (former Theresa). Thus, it made her wonder how was she ever going to pull it off. However, she accepted the role, because in the end of the day, she is an actor and it was a part she had to do. Emily admitted that Jen was really kind and helpful towards her. She told her that she could come to her if she needed to know anything about how to play Theresa.
“The Fans Are Going To Hate Me.” -Emily O’Brien Thought About Becoming Theresa On Days Of Our Lives
At first Emily was all over the place about playing Theresa. But when she started to do it, she realized there were many similarities between Theresa and Gwen. They are both trouble makers! However, Emily still insists that she is nothing like Jen Lilley and she can’t become Jen Lilley. Thus, she settled for playing Theresa on Days of Our Lives in a way the character feels right to her. Speaking about the physical attributes, the actress admitted it felt odd to wear a blonde wig at first. But she is getting used to it.
However, one thing that she really misses about playing Gwen is her accent. Emily had to drop her British accent. “Doing the accent made me feel closer to myself and my family and who I am and where I’m from.” Apart from aesthetics, she also misses her former co-stars. As Gwen, she was interacting more with Paul Telfer and Greg Rikaart. However, as Theresa her storylines are now with Eric Martsolf and Robert Scott Wilson. Speaking of her co-stars, Emily narrated her first day of shoot as Theresa.
