However, the Coronation Street star revealed that the journalist struggles to accept that he might not be the culprit. Nathan’s history of running a child exploitation ring makes him a prime suspect for DS Swain. However, many other men, including kindly Roy and Bethany’s boyfriend Daniel Osbourne, are also under suspicion.

Meanwhile, actress Channique Sterling-Brown stated that her character’s partner, Joel Deering, could be the murderer, too. This came after the solicitor decided to defend villain Nathan Curtis. There are speculations about him doing it all just to cover up his own sins. But what’s the truth?

“Grooming Storyline Was The Most Rewarding Thing” Says Lucy

It’s clear that Nathan’s presence is highly unwelcome as it has brought back painful memories for Bethany. Fallon expressed that Bethany will never be able to escape this trauma fully. She reflected on her experience with the 2017 grooming storyline, mentioning how talking to real victims back then helped her evoke those emotions.

The Coronation Street actress expressed, “The grooming storyline was the most rewarding thing I did as an actor from when I was in the show before, so I was pleased to revisit it. Let us tell you that the plot was inspired by the real-life Rochdale child abuse and sex trafficking case from 2012.

This storyline elevated her to A-list Corrie star status, earning critical praise and numerous awards. A few years before this, she became the first actress to play Bethany as a grown-up when the character returned to Coronation Street as a feisty teenager with her mum after eight years abroad.

At first, she started getting bullied at school and began taking diet pills to cope with her growing vulnerability. Fallon shared that she was told this would lead to Bethany being groomed. She admitted that she didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of the storyline and found it overwhelming, especially since she was only 21.

However, being around ‘good people’ from the Platt family helped her a lot. She mentioned being super close with Tina O’Brien (who plays Sarah). She relied on Coronation Street star Ben Price (who plays Nick Tilsley, Bethany’s uncle) for honest and level-headed advice.

What’s Bethany’s Next Challenge?

The star remembered her first day on Corrie when she 19. Helen Worth, who plays Bethany’s granny, Gail Rodwell, had her arm around her all day, both during scenes and in between takes. In 2020, she left the role to explore new opportunities, but the pandemic hit and shut down the industry.

Once things reopened, she did a few jobs, had a baby, and started to panic about auditioning again. Then, out of the blue, her agent contacted her to return to Coronation Street. She immediately said yes. “The timing was perfect for where I am in my life,” Lucy said.

Additionally, sans have been given a peek into the actress’s off-screen life through the ITV reality show Drama Queens. In the soap, she opened up about deeply personal topics. Her honesty was appreciated, and thousands of women shared similar experiences online.
