Coronation Street And Emmerdale Release New Festive Schedule
Coronation Street and Emmerdale confirmed the new Christmas Day schedule. This year, both ITV soaps will screen for 30 minutes each on December 25 (Monday). Usually, the soaps aired hour-long specials on Christmas, but this time, they are set to break the trend. Emmerdale will telecast the episode at 6:30 pm, followed by Corrie’s episode at 7 pm. According to reports, While Emmerdale last had a 30-minute Christmas screen time in 2004, Coronation Street will have its shortest episode since 1997.
Additionally, this is not going to affect any storylines. Corrie will still receive three and a half hours of screen time from Monday, December 25, to Sunday, December 31. The reason behind this is that on Sunday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve) and Tuesday, December 26 (Boxing Day), Corrie will run episodes unlike its typical week schedule. From Monday, December 25th through Sunday, December 31st, Emmerdale will air three and a half hours. Also, it includes two-hour-long specials on December 27th and 28th.
Show Producers Teased Holiday Storylines
Coronation Street and Emmerdale makers hinted at the future storyline. Corrie producer Iain MacLeod revealed that the Boxing Day episode would feature the exit of Peter Barlow. He said, “It all builds up to this incredibly surprising Boxing Day episode. There’s a huge two-hander between [Peter and Carla] – more or less, they are the only two cast in the episode.” He added that it would be a treat, especially for Peter and Carla fans, as it explores everything about them and their life. He continued, “It’s building towards an exit for Peter, which is really brilliant and bittersweet and feels like Corrie at its very best.”
At the same time, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw teased a dark Christmas. She said, “Heading up to Christmas, we’ve got some exciting plans, but I have absolutely, definitely been sworn to secrecy on this one!” According to her, in the past years, they had quite light, fluffier Christmas, but this time, it’s going to be intense.
The show boss revealed, “A lot of it is edgier for us for Christmas. I can tell you that definitely not every one of our villagers will be sat down eating their turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas Day.” So, are you excited for this Christmas? Undoubtedly, it’s going to be more thrilling than ever before. Till then, stay tuned to the TV Season & Spoilers for more Emmerdale updates!
