90 Day Fiance: Geoffrey Paschel Getting Released From Prison Early? Here’s What Happened During Oral Arguments!

TLC: GEOFFREY PASCHEL

The 90 Day Fiance star Geoffrey Paschel turned out to be very turbulent. Viewers found out about it after he stopped appearing on the show. He made headlines for aggravated assault and kidnapping of his ex. The celeb has been sentenced to prison and has to do time for almost two decades, i.e., 18 years. He still filed for an appeal to prove his innocence. Well, the appeal process is in the last stage now as the court heard “oral arguments” from his attorney.

90 Day Fiance: Here’s What Happened During Geoffrey Paschel’s Appeal

Geoffrey Paschel came into the limelight almost two years ago after his appearance on 90 Day Fiance. The court found him guilty of domestically abusing and kidnapping one of his exes. Following this, they sent him to prison to serve time for 18 years! Well, the man didn’t give up and asked his attorneys to file for an “appeal.” The process is in its last stage now as his lawyers presented “oral arguments” urging the court for a re-trial. However, Geoffrey was not present in the court for the same in person or via video call.

The TV celebrity’s attorney, M. Jeffery Whitt, focussed on two testimonies while presenting his oral argument for Geoffrey’s re-trial. It turns out that one of the cops who were present at the scene stated that the scratch marks on the convict’s chest appeared “self-inflicted.” Whitt noted that the police officer was not an “expert.” Hence, his testimony was pretty much of no use. On the other hand, the 90 Day Fiance star’s ex said that he deleted their text thread off her phone. At the same time, he also deleted pictures from the device. Some of the photos were of the time when the woman had captured her injuries from when her ex hurt her in the past.

So, the lawyer argued that instances of abuse from the past weren’t allowed. He said that Geoffrey’s ex’s statement was like a bell that couldn’t be “unrung.” Whitt argued that the case was looking more like he said/she said case. Hence, his client should get a re-trail based on these arguments.

90 Day Fiance: Will The Court Approve Geoffrey’s Appeal & Grant Him Re-trial?

Now that the oral arguments are over to issue a re-trial for Geoffrey’s case, it is up to the appellate court to announce their verdict. They will be issuing a ruling after a few weeks. If the appeal gets denied, the 90 Day Fiance star will still have the option to go to the Tennessee Supreme Court for another round. But the state is very particular and picky about the cases they want to hear. More details on justia.com reveal that the prosecutors have the ability to file a response within 30 days, i.e., a month.

Now that the “oral arguments” stage is over after brief filings and another round of response, it is up to a “three-judge panel” to determine the result. They take a thorough look at the briefs, arguments, and also previous court records to pass on a verdict about the defendant getting another trial.
