Both Tammy and Amy have suffered from weight problems their whole life. The 1000 Lb Sisters stars explained it was due to their genetic factors and a combination of poor living conditions and eating habits. However, they both had always wanted to get better.
Tammy even went to rehab to lose weight. And now the star is 400 lbs down from her previous weight. She recently also tried to sit behind the steering wheel for the first time in two decades. And though she was successful in doing so, driving is still stretching it a little too far for her.
1000 Lb Sisters: Tammy Can Sit Behind The Steering Wheel But Won’t Be Driving Yet
Tammy has lost a lot of weight. The 1000 Lb Sisters star had suffered from extremely high weight all her life. But she was ready to turn her life around and made efforts to lose weight. And now the star is down by 400 pounds! To celebrate this win, Tammy’s brother Chris recommended the star try to sit behind the car’s steering wheel. She could do so, but Tammy won’t start driving the car yet.
In a December 31 TikTok video, the TLC star had replied to a fan question. A fan had asked Tammy if she had learned to drive yet. Tammy replied that she does “want to learn eventually.” She went on to add that she won’t be learning that “right now (as the) anxiety’s just a little too much.” But the star is willing to take “Baby steps.” Tammy also revealed that she had driven a golf cart, which “didn’t go too fast.”
The TLC star had lost 115 pounds by the Season 3 finale in January 2022 as she had been to rehab. And by September of the same year, Tammy got a gastric bypass surgery. The star has lost 400 lbs till now. After losing so much weight, Tammy is working on her anxiety.
Her latest win includes “being able to walk without a walker or a wheelchair.” And then, of course, there is Tammy’s latest milestone of sitting in the steering wheel. She was also happy that she could even close the car door and buckle the seat belt. However, driving is still a little scary for the 1000 LB Sisters star.
1000 Lb Sisters: Tammy Is “Feeling Great” & “Thankful” Post Weight-Loss
Having a very high weight comes with many severe health complications. 1000 Lb Sistsrs star Tammy also faced many of these complications because of her weight. But she was determined to lose the extra pounds and get healthy.
In June 2023, Tammy told PEOPLE she “got (the) surgery.” Tammy also said she was “able to make” her “lungs strong enough to get” her breathing tube “out.”
Her doctor had also “cleared” her for “take(ing)” her “oxygen machine (off) during the day time. Though she still has to wear it at night.
