It’s about to be three years since we last saw our favorite characters. Sadly, Wakfu Season 4 is yet to get an official renewal. The creators have several plans for fourth and fifth installments. Yet, the web series may not get a green flag anytime soon. Will it ever return? Can fans save it? Here’s everything to know.
Wakfu originated an extremely popular video game that inspired the production of an animated series. The French television show debuted years ago in 2008. It became an instant hit in France and was soon renewed for a second season. The second season came along in 2011, while the third season took years to return until 2017. Since then, fans are eager to know if Wakfu Season 4 will ever make it to the screens.
Creators Have Plans For Wakfu Season 4 & 5
While the first two seasons of the show did immensely well, Season 3 wasn’t as successful for its producers. Yet, the series has a massive following that is demanding another sequel. As of now, none of the companies related to the production of Wakfu are ready to launch any more episodes. One of the main reasons behind the same is the lack of funds.
Back in February 2019, the directors of the animated series, Anthony “Tot” Roux and Fabrice Nzinzi, confirmed that they had plans for Season 4 and 5. In an interview with French YouTuber Iro Sef, Tot expressed that he and his team were very optimistic about the future of the show. They had already planned out what will happen next. In fact, another Wakfu video game was supposed to debut after the conclusion of the fourth season.
Unfortunately, despite being popular around the world, the third season did not work for Netflix. It had poor viewership, and a fourth season wouldn’t do well in the market either. Thus, the streamer was not positive about the renewal anymore. On the other hand, while the series did stream well in the native country, it moved channels from France 3 to France 4. Hence, the latter alone would not be able to give a considerable budget.
Therefore, the creators were struggling to collect enough funds to put together another season. As per the requirement of the international streamer, the production team could only release 13 episodes in an installment (than the usual 26 episode run). Hence, Netflix only allowed the first half of Season 3 that year. Whereas, the remaining episodes were supposed to release as Wakfu Season 4. Henceforth, the story of the fourth season would then shift to the fifth one.
As of now, neither Season 4 nor Season 5 have any future. Although Tot and his team are ready to grab on any opportunity to make them.
Wakfu Season 4: Chances Of Renewal
Well, as mentioned above, chances for renewal of the fourth season are pretty slim. Nevertheless, neither its creators nor the fans would leave hope just yet. Series directors Anthony “Tot” Roux and Fabrice Nzinzi, are still looking for financers or international streamer for the funding of the series. Considering the immense popularity of the franchise, some streaming companies (like Prime Video or Hulu) may show interest in its production. Although the process may take longer than expected.
On the other hand, the third season also had low chances of release. Yet, it eventually made it to the screens after six long years. Moreover, it has only been two and a half years since Season 3 came out. Fans just need to be patient for a few more years.
Besides, the creators have already planned out a plot for the fourth season. Hence, once they get enough funds, Wakfu Season 4 won’t take long to hit out screens. We’ll update this section as soon as the news arrives.
When Will It Release?
As of now, Wakfu’s production company Ankama Animation isn’t ready to release another season. The sequel of the fantasy series would take a while to get approval from Netflix. On the other hand, moving to another platform would take even longer. Either way, Wakfu Season 4 has low chances to return anytime sooner than 2021 or 2022.
