One Punch Man Season 3: Confirmed? 2020 Release Date & Monster Association Arc

The second season of decade’s best anime series ended recently, and fans are already set for One Punch Man Season 3. Unlike the debut installment, Season 2 has received mixed reviews and ratings. While some are impressed by the recent episodes, others complain about the changed animations. In fact, a large group of fans is demanding a change in the studios again. Here’s everything we know about the series yet.

One-Punch Man originated as a superhero webcomic by artist ONE back in 2009. It became nearly an instant hit, and Yusuke Murata came up with a manga adaptation soon after. Soon after that, Madhouse decided to create an anime adaptation of the insanely-famous storyline. When the first episode debuted in 2015, OPM scored unexpected popularity and soon became a fan-favorite all around the globe. Its second season aired between April and July 2019.

Will One Punch Man Season 3 Ever Come Out?

Ever since the second season ended, fans cannot stop asking whether or not there will be a One Punch Man Season 3. Well, we don’t need a confirmation to expect another installment of the super-popular anime. The franchise is famous enough to get a few more seasons of the anime adaptation. Aside from its popularity, the series is counted as one of the most successful productions ever. Hence, none of the production companies would want to such a potential profit.

Here: Is One Punch Man Season 3 has been delayed?

On the other hand, the demand for One Punch Man Season 3 is increasing continually. In fact, its cancelation can cause much backlash from the audience. Thus, chances for its renewal are pretty high. Luckily, there is enough evidence that confirms the return of the superhero anime.

Back in July 2019, right after the Season 2 finale premiere, the official Twitter account of OPM gave us a few hints. The creators said that One Punch Man is not over, and they will do their best to deliver the anime again. On the other hand, they also asked for support from fans in order to continue the series further on. Hence, possibilities for the return of OPM Season 3 are extremely likely.

Is There Enough Source Material For One Punch Man Season 3?

One of the main reasons behind the delay of One Punch Man Season 3 is the lack of content. As of December 2019, the manga series has a total of 21 volumes. The freshman season of the anime covered the first seven manga volumes. Whereas, OPM Season 2 picked up the plot until Volume 16, leaving only five books to create the third installment.

For a full season, creators will need at least seven to eight manga volumes. Hence, the studio cannot order OPM Season 3 until ONE and Yusuke Murata publish a few more manga volumes. Therefore, fans may have to wait for a while to get One Punch Man Season 3 release date.

Monster Association Arc: What Will Happen Next?

The second season of the anime adaptation opened up the Monster Association Arc in its latter part. The arc begins to form around the fifteenth volume of the manga and is yet to complete until the last volume. Fans suggest that the storyline will continue at least until a year over the course of a few volumes.

Hence, OPM Season 3 will continue to rope in the Monster Association Arc. However, it’s hard to say if the anime season will fully cover the entire plotline. Viewers doubt that the third installment may leave us on a cliffhanger before completing the arc.

On the other hand, the audience is worried if One Punch Man Season 3 will have even less Saitama than the second outing. Fans complained that Saitama’s presence wasn’t as prominent in Season 2, as it was in the debut season. His plotline was sidelined, and the real story was taking place outside the arena. The episodes focused on the Monster Association and their battle with several S-Class heroes across the city. Meanwhile, Garou was still on the loose.

Even though Saitama reclaimed the spotlight by the finale, his overall involvement was not satisfactory. While fans hope to see more of him next season, OPM Season 3 might have even lesser scenes of him. The Monster Association arc will continue, however, the Heroes Association will put up a big fight. They will attempt to invade the monsters’ HQ, while S-Class heroes will lead several one-on-one battles.

Chances suggest that these battles may dominate the upcoming season. Whereas, Saitama may not have much screentime until the finale, where he will become the star of the epic battle. However, things may change if fans demand improvement.

Fans Demand Change In Studios For OPM Season 3

A large number of fans are demanding a change in the production studios again. Viewers and critics blame J.C. Staff for the anime’s low performance. Hence, according to several social media posts, fans expect One Punch Man Season 3 to be picked up by Madhouse again. On the contrary, others hope that Bones studio saves the upcoming installment. As of now, J.C. Staff remains to be OPM’s current producer.

One Punch Man Season 2: Review

Fans waited for almost four years to watch Season 2 episodes of One Punch Man. However, the installment turned out to be a very different offer than the debut season. It received mixed reviews from critics, whereas minor backlash from the audience. One of the main reasons for the anime’s downfall was its change in studios.

Back in 2017, it was announced that OPM Season 2 had been picked up by J.C. Staff instead of original producer Madhouse. In fact, they also dropped Season 1 director Shingo Natsume and sound director, Shoji Hata, for Shingo Natsume and Yoshikazu Iwanami, respectively. Earlier, fans weren’t sure if this change will bring major differences in the anime. However, upon Season 2’s release, viewers were left disappointed.

Some fans reported that the new season is all over the place. Besides, they also claim that Season 2 has sloppy animations and degraded fight scenes. However, the storyline and theme were all intact and impressive due to the writer’s presence. Despite having a powerful plotline, the anime installment did not reach the quality of its freshman season because of its underwhelming looks.

One Punch Man Season 3 Release Date

Consider the fact that we don’t have a renewal yet; it’s hard to predict an air date. However, the creators may take at least a year to collect enough source material to make a full-season. After that, the studio will take a while to produce the new episodes. Even if the production process is rushed, the OPM Season 3 release date may not arrive anytime sooner than late-2021 or early-2022.
