It’s been a while since the first two seasons of the anime released, and we’re still waiting for ‘Nanbaka Season 3.’ Fans are getting impatient with every passing day and have begun to doubt the future of the series. Well, it’s high time for makers to answer some questions. Here’s everything you need to know.
The anime adaption of a manga series with the same name, Nanbaka debuted back in 2016. Its second season came out relatively early in 2017. However, the studio stopped making more episodes since then, and Nanbaka Season 3 went under a painfully long hiatus.
Will ‘Nanbaka Season 3’ Ever Come Out?
As of now, chances for the anime’s renewal are pretty unlikely. Despite its immense popularity, the studio has no current plans to work on a third outing. While Season 3 remains in high demand, requests from fans have been continually ignored. One of the main reasons behind the resistance is the lack of source material.
Nanbaka’s manga series written and illustrated by Shō Futamata has a total of eight volumes as of today. The first two installments of the anime adaptation covered six of them. Whereas the rest two of them got published after Season 2 released in Japan. Volume 8 came out one and a half years ago in July 2018. Ever since then, the creator has not published any further volumes of the manga.

Hence, the studio now has only two volumes of the manga to create Nanbaka Season 3, which is not enough. This led to a long hiatus after the second season. Even if the producers decide to make a short installment with fewer episodes, it may turn out to be the last one of the anime. As of now, our only hope relies upon the publishing of more volumes of the manga series.
What Will Happen In The New Season?
Nanbaka follows the story of four men named Jyugo, Uno, Rock, and Nico. They are sent to Japan’s most secure prison to serve a sentence. The Prison has high security, and nobody has ever been able to escape. The anime follows the daily life of these mischievious inmates and their adventures inside the jail.
The story of the second season ends in correspondence with the end of Volume 6 of the manga. Hence, Nanbaka Season 3 will pick up the plot of the seventh volume and include the eighth one as well. It will mostly focus around Jyugo trying to look for something that he knows is missing. He will also analyze Ninety-nine’s past. On the other hand, a mysterious entity called ‘Elf’ may suddenly appear in the Namba Prison. Whereas, Jyugo will approach the Elf as he knows his past.
When Will Nanbaka Season 3 Premiere?
As far as it looks, the makers of the anime adaptation are still waiting for more volumes of the manga. Once they get at least one new volume, the studio may order Nanbaka Season 3. However, it may take time, at least until 2021.
On the other hand, the studio may decide to make a short installment with lesser episodes or a movie instead. In case they do so, it may premiere sooner this year. As of now, fans can expect Nanbaka Season 3 as early as the end of 2020. However, it’s always wise to wait for an official announcement.
