Akihito Tsukushi’s manga comics became famous upon serializing in Tekeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma website back in 2012. Eight volumes of the series have been released as of today. The popularity of the manga brought in millions of people to watch the anime adaptation. In fact, the anime turned out to become much more successful, and the demand for Made In Abyss Season 2 rose soon after.
Well, not many of Made In Abyss fans were aware that Kinema Citrus had already ordered a second season of the anime adaptation. In fact, soon after Season 1’s debut, the studio was confident to make more content upon the storyline of the manga series. Hence, a few compilation films and an OVA episode premiered following the anime series. The third compilation movie or the sequel film of Season 1 will soon hit the theatres as well.

Kinema Citrus is all set to release another compilation movie of the massively popular anime. The makers of the series previously announced that they’re interested in creating a sequel of the debut season as soon as possible. However, instead of turning out as a series, the sequel will now be presented in the form of a film.
The makers are surely working well for the big screen. The first two Made In Abyss films worked exceptionally well for the production. Besides, the OVA episode turned out to be a huge success too. Hence, the studio is currently lenient towards making movies of the franchise rather than focusing on Made In Abyss Season 2.
The latest film in the franchise, Made In Abyss: Dawn Of The Deep Soul is all set hit the big screens. The movie releases next year on January 17, 2020.

Why Is Made In Abyss Season 2 Delayed?
As mentioned above, the makers of the anime adaptation are rather focusing on making movies instead of a series of episodes. Besides, since one of the films is releasing in January 2020, Made In Abyss Season 2 may not go on floors any sooner. Premiering movies instead of a series is one of the primary reasons for the second season’s delay, which may continue for a while now.
It’s already been two years since the anime debuted, and fans have been waiting patiently. However, any further delay can welcome major public outrage. Made In Abyss Season 2 is still in high demand and may turn out to be much more successful than expected. Hence, we hope that the series soon gets into productions to premiere at the screens again.
What Will Happen In The Sequel?
The eight volumes of Made In Abyss manga series consists of a total of 51 chapters. The first season of the anime adaptation covered the plot of 26 of them. Hence, the makers now have around 25 more chapters to make another installment. However, the sequel film, Dawn Of The Deep Soul is set to continue the story of Season 1 until the 38th chapter.
Hence, the movie barely leaves any content for Made In Abyss Season 2 to cover. The anime series may not attempt to continue the plot from where the first season left because it is already shown in the film. This severely risks the future of all upcoming installment of the anime as lack of content will stall the productions.
The orphaned girl Riko is determined to follow her mother’s (Lyza) footsteps and become a White Whistle. When she receives a balloon with pages of discoveries made by her mother, she decides to find her. Hence, she begins her adventures by departing into the Abyss. By the end of the debut season, Rik and her companions are still halfway through the route.
As of now, the plot of the anime adaptation may follow Riko, Reg, and Nanachi, making their way down to the Garden of the Flowers of Resilience in the fourth layer. The three of them are still finding ways to reach Lyza. In fact, towards the end of this season, they may reach much closer to her.
Made In Abyss Season 2 Release Date
As of now, the second season of the anime is yet to go under production, which may take time. However, the sequel film is yet to release, and the makers may not begin working on the installment anytime soon. In fact, a 2020 premiere seems highly unlikely. Fans may have to wait at least until 2021 to get any Made In Abyss Season 2 episodes.
